The mad merkin who shot up Penrith last night was a former Pennys Reserve Grader.
He was featured on a Men of League page on their website, now taken down. Google cache exists but.

Six years ago before Daniel’s last ever game of football, he was fit, healthy and enjoying playing the sport he has loved all his life.
Then whilst playing Reserve Grade for Penrith, the winger twisted his neck in an innocuous tackle.
Daniel says that he didn’t feel quite right after the tackle. So he defended for another set and then had to go off injured. Driving home after the game, the road lines were crossing for Daniel and he felt like he was going to be physically sick.
Little did Daniel know that he was having a delayed stroke after the tackle where he twisted his neck.
The stroke was devastating for Daniel – it left him unable to walk and talk. His mother had to feed him because he had no physical strength remaining in his once strong body.
As a result of the stroke, Daniel ended up with no strength in the right side of his body and spent six weeks in rehabilitation.
After years as part of the rugby league family, Daniel was known by many and was referred to the Men of League Foundation. The Men of League came to Daniel’s assistance which has helped turn his life around.
As part of Daniel’s rehab and program to rebuild strength in his body, he was referred to Paul Graham – Australia’s most famous body builder. Daniel visited Paul’s gym to start his path back to building up a strong body and will always remember Paul’s early advice: “You can rebuild your body, you just have to put your mind to it”.
Daniel’s determination to rebuild his body and strength saw him finally compete at this year’s International Federation of Body Building’s NSW Championships.
“This was my first competition and I was really pleased with how I looked,” Daniel says.
“I’d like to stay in the industry, even if not competing, I’m thinking about possibly going into judging.
“I’m so grateful for the help that Men of League gave me. Ron Coote was often in touch, helping and encouraging me. I’m proud that my son still plays rugby league for St Mary’s. The rugby league community is a wonderful family,” Daniel concluded.
