This whole Folau saga has absolutely nothing to do with people’s liberties being taken away from them.

Where was the moral “freedom of speech” outrage in support of Anthony Mundine when he made those deplorable comments after 9/11?

What about when Yassmin Abdul-Magied made these disrespectful comments:
“Anzac Day: LEST. WE. FORGET. (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine”?

The fact of the matter is, merkins care about freedom of speech, as long as they agree with the words contained in that speech. Unfortunately, as is case with Folau’s comments, there are plenty of merkins who likely agree with them (whether publically or intrinsically).

I wonder how many people who have donated to Israel’s cause voted “No”???

Wow 100% right

. The same merkins who are trumpeting for Folau to have free speech ran Yassmin out of town. She lost her job at the ABC and was forced to look for work in the UK. All because she had the hide to have empathy for the incarcerated or those living under oppression. Moreso that she wore a hijab or whatever it is called..

Does asking for donations automatically mean you think your cause is more important than someone else's cause?

I think what he means is that charitable donations are hard to get. A millionaire seeking his legal fees to be paid to get himself out of a self inflicted brouhaha is not exactly high on the list compared to kids terminal illnesses and the homeless.

No what Drew means is exactly what he said "YOU think YOU deserve donations more than they do"

I don't think Izzy thinks that at all.

To be fair, I personally think what she did was disrespectful in the context of when she made the post. However, the merkins who are pleading freedom of speech can’t pick and choose when they decide to apply it.

How? It seems like you are assuming a lot.
There’s an opportunity cost of giving one charity a donation over another. There’s only a limited amount people can outlay to charity/causes. Izzy would be well aware of this and so by calling Joe Public to fund his legal costs he is placing it higher in importance than other causes. Otherwise, he would say, for those wishing to support my cause, I would prefer if you donated to charity x, y or z instead.

That would be the more “Christian” thing to do.

If you’re asking for them on your own behalf, then to a certain extent, yes
It's not as if he's taking any money from the conjoined dyslexic orphans, or whatever the 'more worthy' cause is. The people likely to donate to Folau aren't very likely to give them that money if Izzy doesn't stick his hand out.

Not sure about “aren’t very likely”. Some absolutely, but certainly not all. In fact, you’d imagine plenty of the merkins donating are christians. I thought they were meant to be very charitable.

Might as well say that no one should ever ask for help as long as there's someone more in need.

"A limited amount that people can outlay to charity/causes" could be said for anybody asking for a donation, not just Izzy getting funds for his own legal costs. So if this is your reasoning you are actually saying that asking for a donation means you think your cause is more deserving than everyone else's. I call bullshit.

Carrie Bickmore asks for money for her Beanies for Brain Cancer charity. It's important to her because she lost a loved one to brain cancer. Do you think she really believes that her charity is more deserving of donations than other cancer foundations? Because apparenty there is "only limited amount people can outlay to charity". Or is it more likely she believes they are all important and all deserve donations but this one in particular is more personal to her

I doubt Johanna Griggs or Scotty Cam will be building a house for Izzy any time soon.

I reckon Carrie thinks it’s at least as important as other causes. But I’d also agree that a person struggling with a physical or mental condition, or raising funds in the pursuit of curing said conditions, is worth of placing greater importance than a millionaire’s legal battle to justify a wrongful dismissal due to derogatory comments about homosexuals.

Would you @Noise and IALB?
