I never invest in diddly - sure I have super, but that just goes in and is forgotten, hope its heaps one day.
I took note of Avenger in 2017 (and some people at work were talking about it too) and was on the verge of a modest investment with absolutely zero knowledge of what/how/etc. But procrastinated and then bam, it all crashed .... and I thought, thank f**k for that - crazy f**kin $erb advice
Late 2020 a close family member convinced me to get into it. Not bitcoin - other cryptos were where the money would be made. I did a bit more research this time round.
My experience is that it can be as stressful as f**k. It went through a bit of a boom from Jan to April - was feeling good about it - then the arse fell out of it. Well turns out it was only one ass cheek that fell out, but that felt bad enough. Just about all the profit whittled away. I was still a n00b and hadn't taken any real profits out. But at least heeded advice not to bail at the bottom.
I think its not for the faint hearted. Shit crashes 20-30% in less than an hour. You don't have time to react. Its 24/7 - shit happens while you are asleep. There often isn't much logic to it - and I think it can be manipulated by rich merkins with alot invested .... but maybe thats similar to shares? I dunno.
If you want to be involved, you must absolutely understand it can be volatile as f**k ... a 15% "correction" in an hour is entirely normal every once in a while. Also know there are cycles that span years and that it will almost certainly crash 80-90% again at some point - and you have to decide if you want to get some profit OR just let it ride the big drops and expect it to be even bigger in 4 years time. The tax implications can't be ignored if you do decide to take your profit and run - EOFY you might get a big bill - aussie exchanges report your involvement to the ATO.
Also realise that the "alt coins", ie not bitcoin, can be more volatile and will crash harder. And that many won't stand the test of time. Some alts that were big at the 2017 peak just faded off and never recovered, so if you didn't take your profits, you may never get them back.
I don't entirely trust that bitcoin will be big forever. Maybe it will? Who the f**k knows? There is alot of shenaigans going on globally - alot of rich f**kers manipulating all sorts of things. I don't entirely buy the "bitcoin is untouchable" theory - I'm sure it could come unstuck at some point.
Well thats my 1,005 cents worth.
