Looks like some quality buck passing on the way!! It’s very exciting!!
Nah it’s not hard to check entry requirements before you travel.

ABC now saying that Novak is going to court (law not tennis) over the border entry refusal.

Statement on Mr Novak Djokovic

Border Operations 6/01/2022

The Australian Border Force will continue to ensure that those who arrive at our border comply with our laws and entry requirements.

The ABF can confirm that Mr Djokovic failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the entry requirements to Australia, and his visa has been subsequently cancelled.
Non-citizens who do not hold a valid visa on entry or who have had their visa cancelled will be detained and removed from Australia.
The ABF can confirm Mr Djokovic had access to his phone.

Yea
surely the visa application with supporting vaccine exemption documents should have been viewed & passed or rejected by officials at our embassy in Belgrade weeks before he flew here ?

I suspect he may get an injunction in a court to temporarily have the decision overturned. Only for another court to uphold the decision & he will be deported.

A Tennis Australia source claimed the move was a publicity stunt that solely targeted Djokovic and not other players who had already entered with the same exemption.
yep - sounds about right ........ covid, the political gift that keeps on giving

Yeah right. As if anyone from TA would say that.

If he was going to provide some type of dodgy paperwork you’d think it would pass and he’d have someone able enough to fill in the right form. And who gave it the green light in the first place. Tennis Australia ? Mistakes have been made on both ends and that idiot from Victoria and Scomo are as politically reactive as they come

This reeks of sport mixing with politics and they did it to the guy that has won it more than anyone. I doubt Roger would have been treated like this.

Pathetic from all concerned.

Nah. I reckon someone from Novak’s his team f**ked this. Blaming politicians is a cop out. None of this would have happened if he lodged his exemption application for an unvaccinated traveler before he departed. He needed to do this no earlier than 2 months and no later than 2 weeks before his arrival date. If he did that, the paperwork would not have had to be scrutinised at midnight last night.

Scomo is still a reactive agenda driven f**kwit and for the first time since Chikarovski the Liberals will not have my vote.

Reason:

@Gronk - they love to hide behind technicalities in everything, it's entrenched, they don't look for practical solutions..just passing the buck, finger pointing etc..

I don’t disagree that Scomo will go all Barnaby / Johnny Depp on tough borders and milk this. However the facts remain that if Novak applied for his exemption entry visa and his paperwork was assessed by DFAT during the appropriate timeframes BEFORE he traveled, then there would be no grounds for the bloke at the immigration desk to question anything and pull him aside.

Assuming his paperwork and exemptions are legitimate there is also nothing stopping someone in authority to make a practical decision/solution.

FFS how long could it take to assess? 30min.
