Capitalism has a shelf life and we are approaching its end. It's just not sustainable
There is nothing more sustainable than markets. What’s not sustainable is governments interfering in it to the extent that they are. Obviously there needs to be some oversight or the little fish all get eaten. But too much oversight and the little fish stop matching their contributions to their needs. It’s a balancing act.

They are not the law makers or the cash giver-out-er-ers.
Fashionable ideology costs nothing. Like wokeism in general really. Its adherents are like unpaid volunteers, except usually they’re getting paid by the government or big adult-daycare style consultancies.

It scares me.
I wouldn't say I have given up.

But what hope is there for a single bloke like me at 28 even trying to buy on a single income.

When you aren't even close. Unless I win 160 million powerball tonight.

Anywya I have decided just to make up for lost time during covid and go travelling in the next 3-4 years.

I have a decent share in a family investment property atm up in Forster.

But in terms of buying anything by myself I have no hope until I find myself a missus where you have at least 2 full time incomes to rely upon.

From my uni days, I think we are approaching stagflation. However we have low unemployment which may avert this situation.

GDP is growing at 3 - 4%, which is behind inflation, but not low, and unemployment is lower than what we were calling full employment a coupla years ago, it's all a bit weird cause wages aren't driving inflation, but it's not stagflation by any means.

It could be though that high commodity prices are artificially inflating growth, so maybe that kinda ticks two of the boxes, but then unemployment? Way to low.

Russia and La Nina fault?

More like the world shut down for almost 2yrs on and off over some flu.
That's the main driver here. But let's ignore that and blame Putin and some rain. I'm sure they contributed but don't forget lockdowns. That's what we are paying for.

It's certainly more Russia and natural disasters here and now.

Lockdowns by themselves contributed f**k all to inflation, they f**ked supply for sure, however it was the governments response injecting a shit ton of cash into consumers pockets that pushed up demand, whilst supply was being f**ked that combined drove inflation.

You are 28 and you feel as though you have no hope. I completely understand your predicament.
I'm 58, single income and have been screwed financially. My rent is money going down the drain atm. I have no f**king hope of getting into the current market.
I feel your pain.

In the end, if money is cheap and easy to get, it loses value, so everything you trade money for will increase in relative cost.

Supply issues are real, but in many instances they only exist because demand is stronger, and demand is only stronger because money costs less to spend today than it does to spend tomorrow.

Look on the bright side, at least your rent isn't principle being poured into a depreciating asset.
