A missed opportunity for De Minaur.

Being up 2 sets to 1 with momentum.

Just got steamrolled in the end.

Still not sure what is ceiling will be probably best he will get is maybe a semi final appearance at a grand slam.

Things will open up a bit once Novak goes.

But yeah i agree i think around that mark.

Plenty of players in the top 10 atm still haven't won anything due Novak just cleaning up and Nadal just dominating the French Open for the past 10-15 years.

Are there any signs of Novak slowing down or retiring though?

He is playing incredibly well for a 35 year old.

Well he always seems to have some mystery injury he seems to carry every-time he comes out here. So i assume it will slow him down at some point.

But it just might be like the Queenslanders claiming some mystery flu is spreading every year during origin camp. Just doesn't affect the performance.

Novak is brilliant with his mind games and knows exactly how to play the game.

This year it was some sort of horrific stomach bug wasn't it?

I think the Demon was humbled by Novak last year and became a better player and person because of it. He was not very likeable during the COVID years and was a bigger smart arse than Pou arguing for the sake of it.

BTW - Happy new year @Poupou Escobar or do you celebrate the Chinese one ??

Yep, thought De Minaur had momentum but caved in the 4th and crumbled in the 5th. I guess that difference is what makes whoever the other guy is number 5 seed (despite him never having won anything much of note), and De Minaur the number 10?

I think Alcaraz could be anything - he's still so young, and basically the stand out world number 2 now already. An unexpected injury aside, I don't see anyone else on the rise that will top his momentum once the number one spot is vacated.
