True.

But when someone asks why prices for something go up 30-40% in two years, the model of suppliers, wholesalers, retailers etc allows for multiple layers of the capitalism growth and profit motive to have their impact.
It introduces multiple costs that need to be recovered as well. I don’t work in electricity but I have a background in asset intensive industries. They are costly, merkins of things to maintain.

my biggest gripe is airlines and resorts/accomodation.

realistic prices, and then charge you thru the a$$ as soon as it’s a public holiday's or school holidays. And the government all but encourages to royally bend us over. Ffs
Agreed. What the airlines and tourism sector does is a much more blatant case of price gouging imo.

Just reading that OJ Simpson died.

But had me thinking, if he was found not guilty of the knife slaying of his ex-wife (in the criminal trial), then who else on earth did it...?

“I don’t think most of America believes I did it,” Simpson told The New York Times in 1995, a week after a jury determined he did not kill Brown and Goldman. “I’ve gotten thousands of letters and telegrams from people supporting me.”

*Edit: Article indicates he was guilty in the civil suit brought by the families, but this many years later they're still chasing the money he was meant to pay them.

Yep, costs that would take profit aware from owners/shareholders have to passed on somewhere.
They aren’t charities and many of them are owned by Government. The system is broken for many reasons. The fact that we aren’t a socialist country is low on the list imo. I tried to provide examples of multiple complex issues that aren’t easily managed.

Am not disagreeing about complex issues. But in the original question about why changes have gone up so much just in two years, even government - through privatisations and/or pseudo-privatisation practice of their entities - are impacted by needing to recoup costs, also including supply chain and logistics costs that may have increased during the worldwide covid years.

Yeah. The costs to build and maintain shit have increased astronomically. Some recent stuff in QLD with unions has probably added another 20% to construction costs. No wonder we struggle to get private investment in major developments. Better off sinking your money into another country.

When i watched one the documentaries of the murder i realised the day of the car chase and his arrest was the actual day i was born - June 17, 1994. I always remembered the case for that reason after watching that doco.

Did it get massive attention in Australia at the time.

Yep, it made for pretty captivating tele. The car chase, and then the trial was one of the first celebrity trials in the modern era, with nightly media coverage and updates on the news.

He was probably well known from his acting (Naked Gun Series) at that point, in addition to his previous sporting career.

Globalisation's where it's at. For better or worse now.

Heard the other day median house price in Sydney will be $2.1m by 2027.

to buy you’ll need to be a couple with combined annual salary of at least $300k and save a deposit in excess of $400k

Good f**king luck
Yeah i am thinking of looking at buying in Brisbane purely for investment purposes but even then its not easy.

Sydney is a lost cause.

Speaking to a school-friend who is looking up there as well he reckons they have an olympic corridor going.

If anything its probably in the next 2 years to pounce otherwise Brisbane might get out of control like Sydney.

Everything is overinflated, especially the Sydney housing market.

I reckon Brisbane is already out of control. Thought we were smart selling up before COVID but in hindsight I wish we hung on to it.

I’m all for globalism personally. We benefit significantly from our valuable export commodities and with the right governance, foreign investment in Australia is good for our economy.
Winners and losers, just like capitalism. We're in the winning basket at the moment. Would be nice if some of the multinationals who do their business and earn profits in Australia were more fairly taxed imo, for the benefit of... Australia.

And I've finally realised how the Kardashians got to be "famous" in the first place - the Dad defended OJ in the trial.

That serves as a disincentive to further investment when many of them already contribute enormously through taxation. If you compare to other countries we don’t miss the multinationals and definitely get our piece on the way through.

Rather than squeeze the shit out of what we have, we should be trying to grow the pie. It’s short sighted shit that governments do when they can’t plan budgets and realise that there are a shitload of hospitals, schools, roads etc that need funding.

I bought during the first lockdown. It was the only chance I had in Sydney. All the competition got spooked.
