fmd, you clowns dont know what a doctor is? He's a GP and a Surgeon

There's 2 right there and I'm not talking about PHDs or any honorary doctorates.

And unless he does an MD (the medical equivalent of a PhD), he is not entitled to use the prefix "Doctor".....and MBBS makes one a medical practitioner, not a doctor. It is a double bachelor degree. I'll have the same level of qualification in ten months...

That is correct, yes. A person who has done a Bachelor of Surgery is a surgeon. If that person completes an MD or a PhD, they are a Doctor.

Historically, Australian medical schools have followed the British tradition by conferring the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) to its graduates whilst reserving the title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) for their research training degree, analogous to the PhD. Although the majority of Australian MBBS degrees have been graduate programs since the 1990s, under the previous Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) they remained categorised as Level 7 Bachelor's degrees together with other undergraduate programs.

Yeah it's because people assume that a medical practitioner automatically equals a doctor. But really you need to complete a doctorate to be a doctor.

Nah. No one will take me on as a PhD candidate. Something to do with being too cool for school I believe was the terminology....
