So i just saw it reported the high court just took the constitution word for word ... so why the f**k did we waste all the f**kin money figuring that shit out ... and now waste a f**kload more money with by-elections to reinstate the same merkins

The HC accepted the argument of two merkins and not five. So it wasn't simple.

It was heard in the Court of Disputed Returns @ High Court of Australia. Their job is to hear a petition by an individual or by the Australian Electoral Commission or on an application by either the upper or lower house.

There was no other way to determine if these merkins were eligible to stand for election. The top lawyer in the land is the Attorney General (George Brandis) and if he made the call, it would be argued that it was flawed or partisan.
