Anyway yesterday I was at the Palisades Hotel near Walsh Bay. We had our annual Christmas party with family and friends.

One of my wife’s friends bought along her new boyfriend from the lower north shore. Nice guy, both went through divorces and are now dating.

Anyway Matt (that’s the dude’s name) told me that his family used to own the hotel and he had mixed feelings about attending. I asked why.

It was owned by his father and uncle. Uncle went through a messy divorce and had to sell it. Matt’s father has never forgiven his ex sister in law because they sold it for $1.4m in the mid 90’s. Later sold for $20m in the early 2000’s , then after the full renovation which included lifts,
sexy balcony bar etc onsold for a cool $33m.

The day got worse for poor old Matt. He gets drunk and builds up the courage, goes down on one knee and asks my wife’s friend to marry him.

She says, “No.’

f**king awkward.

I personally also was approached by this dude and he asks me what type of watch I was wearing. I tell him and he starts going on how he is into vintage watches and works for a men’s magazine etc.

Mrs Avenger comes up to me and gives me a hug, the bloke realises I’m not gay and doesn’t say another word and leaves.

I took it as a compliment. It happens with my Omega all the time.

Or you actually look gay, the watch is just a coincidence.

His gaydar was way off or you misread the entire situation.

You know that they (for want of a better word) rarely get it wrong ?

Maybe it was the dancing to Kylie that sent him the wrong signal.

Talking about watches. I have one of these now.

It's a Seagull 1963 Pilot hand wind. A re-issue of the watches that they gave Chinese Air Force pilots in the 1960s.

Your rollerblades probably have something to do with it as well.

You had me for a while. I initially thought that 'this dude' was the same poor bloke whose drunken proposal was publicly rejected.

All good. I'll pay up if it gets there before 2020.

But if it dies in the arse and is worth 5c in 2020 it is only fair that I shit stir you.
That lunatic John McAFee reckons it will get somewhere between US$500k & US$1M within 3 years. Imagine that? There is no way I’d let it ride between those levels even if they got there. I’d have to sell some. Massive risk,
