Canberra Beer fest was a good day, just for something completely different.

I can't feel my face and I spent $37

Interesting to see how this pans out. US politicians including POTUS were silent yesterday whilst huge numbers demanded gun reform. Meanwhile over at Foxnews they are clinging to the “guns don’t kill people” mantra.

the crazy thing is the NRA are the most knowledgeable authority on guns but they are denying themselves a seat at the table

if they stopped saying "no changes" for a second and actually started a discussion they could bring in commonsense gun control laws that would allow responsible gun owners to keep their weapons while weeding out the psychos (not perfect but you have to start somewhere)

100% they blocked Trump from raising the AR15 age to 21 bc they fear that once they agree to one concession, they will be expected to agree to more.

They are still against bump stocks FFS.

US politicians will regret not taking notice of the mobilization of the next gen of voters.

It was a great day out. I think that's the 4th time I've been to it now. I was really pleased to see plenty of craft lagers. It is a style of beer that has been neglected by craft beer brewers in the past.

If you don't want to get shot have some f**king compassion for the kids who are struggling.

Compassion for the kids burdened with mental illness ? I do and they are in every city in every country. It’s just in that country they can head down to kmart and buy a mars bar and an AR15 w/o background checks or any cooling off period.

Funny how it's only white American kids who are driven to shooting merkins by bullying..

So the inclination towards shooting people is independent of bullying, is that what you're saying?
Yeah of course. Most people who get bullied don't shoot anyone. Just like too few bullies get their comeuppance. The world isn't a fair place. That's why we need more guns.

Is getting shot in the face a fair comeuppance for calling some bloke a miserable fat loser, though? I don't condone bullying by any means but I also don't believe bullying is a reasonable justification for school shootings in the way that certain sections of the US media are trying to push.

Anyway the point is that perhaps a large percentage of these people are bullied because they are psychos, instead of the popular narrative that paints them as people who became psychos because they were bullied.

The Columbine shooters were weird violence-loving merkins who used to walk around giving the Nazi salute ffs....they were, amongst their peers at least, outcasts because of their own behaviour. It's a cop out to blame bullying or social problems for shooters.

You have to ask why children found themselves full of hate. We need to address that as a society before disarming merkins. Behind every monster is a victim. Maybe we need to stop convincing people they're victims.

For the Columbine shooters, their explicit motivation was the idea that the world deserved to be torn down. It's a fairly popular idea these days. But somehow arseholes shooting other arseholes at school boggles the mind. A hundred years ago most of these 'kids' would be doing something meaningful with their lives, like working on a farm or in a factory, or joining the army. Now we're trying to convince them to invest everything in trying to fit into a world that doesn't need them.

This is the fate of most boys these days:

Some kids are smart enough to recognise it early, and some of those are messed up enough to get vindictive about it. Others just spam forums about how we need more TPAs to convince fat white forwards to play for us and not some other club.

And not too much pepper FFS!

But this is, ultimately, all part of the same thing. Harder access to guns means fewer and less deadly shootings, that's undeniable. And yes, there needs to be more done to help these kids otherwise. But maybe more would get that help if they didn't have the easy option of becoming murderers, too.

It's a complex issue and on that the US has been woefully ignorant of on many fronts. Guns are a problem because they are an easy outlet for psychos. The way these kids are treated is a problem because there is still a serious problem with how mental illness is viewed, identified, and handled. This isn't even about gun control for adults, mate. You can't buy a beer in the US until you're 21 but Year 12 students can buy an assault rifle. I couldn't look after my own knob in year 12 ffs!
