This is very different to the past. They did think it was worthwhile showing australians on australia day having a good time.

Meh, it was boring tv for the sake of a two minute segment showing some dudes/chicks at the beach and/or on boats, and a bunch of people standing around a backyard bbq. Nothing newsworthy happens tbh.

I think its a pretty obvious attempt to make you think nothing happens on australia day anymore. Make you think if no one else is celebrating it then maybe i shouldnt either.

As i said, cheer it on if you want, but it is happening.

In that case, just make it the 2 Jan for a double holiday - similar to 25-26 Dec. Or make it 31 Dec into 1 Jan for the double. Easy.

Actually, 9 May 1901 is when we became a self-governing country in effect (upon passage of relevant bills in the UK Parliament). Same date in 1927 when our parliament/capital shifted to Canberra, and same date in 1988 when new/current Parliament House was opened. All sound like positive events and a date that can be universally celebrated by all Australians to me!

Yeah/nah. Let's just have it February the 29th. That way we only have to be concerned about all this bullshit every four years.

I think now if we want to celebrate it together we have to change the date. Not saying I agree with this just saying if we leave it where it is currentl6 its pretty much dead as a day to celebrate.

It is what it is - load of citizenship ceremonies are now held on different days, there's literally nothing interesting happening than people taking advantage of a random public holiday - like the Queen's/King's Birthday one (not even on their birthday).

Change the date and start make the national day meaningful again imo, and more relevant/inclusive.

Yeah the evening news did show some stuff ..... but during the morning there was pretty much SFA ..... the SMH does a "live blog" of the day. It had nothing but protests, etc. Same on the home page. Tho they did mention the australians of the year. ... same on every other mainstream news website i looked at, theage, news, nine, 7news, ten, abc. Also saw nothing on the bits of today and sunrise i saw, which i admit was not alot. Not an australian flag in sight.

I don’t think anyone is MADE TO LOOK LIKE, but the facts remain that the date is decisive. So there are two camps now. One camp who says a) well if it upsets some of our community and AU day has only really been 26/1 since the 80’s then change it and the other camp who say b) we won’t really celebrate OZ day but f**k you for trying to change it.

So much fake outrage and OTT patriotism. I call bullshit on the patriotic battlefield and say that it’s more about the political culture war where merkins have jumped on board thinking they have a duty to fight anything that has deemed to be woke.

You are made to feel like shit if you celebrate the day. The lefties are the ones complaining about the day but I see the Right side talking about changing the date which is interesting.


My take it changing the date won't stop the wingers they will always whinge.

The Serbs were most definitely framed as the bad guys in that brouhaha. Even after these conflicts I always watch who is charged with what "war crime" it's always the bad guys. The good guys seem to commit a lot of unfortunate collateral damage.

The bad guys get tried in the Hague. Did you see the results overnight from the international court about Gaza / genocide ? They essentially said "you Israel guys play nice ok and make sure you feed them and give them water, otherwise it might be, you know, that genoc.. word"
