You're missing the point, it doesn't matter how much of a home the bank of mum and dad give, what makes the difference ultimately is that whatever they gift or loan or whatever gets the kid/s into the market.

The inequality isn't in the level of help, it's in the ability to help or not.
Well, any mum and dad who own their home at retirement have the capacity to downsize and help.

Actually there is 70-80% difference. It’s not always inheritance, I also said that mum and dads these days are often are prepared to go without to give the kids a start into the property market.

Unsure what you want me to say about not everyone having access to it. I agree, nobody gave me a leg up either. However the likelihood of mum n dad downsizing at retirement specifically to give their kids some cash would not have happened in my day either. Does that generosity make you feel uncomfortable?
Not at all. I'll be doing it for my kids and I'm filthy at my own parents for leaving me with f**k all. Sure I've been able to buy a house of my own but with better advice and a decent inheritance I'd be f**king minted by now.

Small world but there is a guy that I jostle with here who used to work with one of my close mates. Described him as a top guy and a League nut that supports Parra.

Freaked me out. I’m going to be nicer to him now. No @Gronk it's not you.

This is no different to what hindyeleven was talking about. Whether mummendad buy the kid a house outright or just give them 30%, and wherever mummendad got the money (inheritance or elsewhere), it's still the bank of mummendad, and not everyone has access to it, and even then not equally.
Here is mummendad

Exactly.

You understand that there are many that don't yeah?
Unsure the point of all of this. All I was saying really from the outset is that the high cost of housing in Australia is forcing families to share that burden across generations. The days of saving a 20% deposit and buying your first flat at 23 are over.

Sure, there will be cohorts who won’t get this benefit for a miriad of reasons. I never said this was the silver bullet to housing affordability.

Apparently to live a cracking life in retirement requires at least $1.8m in super.
Well the more money the better anyway. Mind boggles why the liberals are so anti superannuation. They are constantly campaigning to stop the employer contribution side. That doesn’t bother me bc I am self employed, but I expect that Joe Normal would struggle to do it on his own. Then again, who cares about Joe as long as his boss is making a buck.

Look up liberals + superannuation guarantee

As I said, you missed what Pou was saying, and the point I was making, seems now you're there.

Superannuation and Medicare are the two greatest achievements of Labor in my lifetime. The 38 hr week is up there too I suppose.
