I used to make my own lunch from either the previous night's leftovers or mix and match sandwiches from whatever we had in the fridge. Sometimes I would buy a cut madeira cake from Coles and slice it up to last the week for morno's along with some fruit. You did what you had to do.

It would not be hard to spend $100+ per week buying take-away for lunches.
I can do 5 morning teas and lunches for work for $30 or less, especially when I use leftovers.

Indeed.
I'm lucky to have take-away (uber eats) 2-3 times a year, but my god it is good when I do.
I must state that we do 'dine out/in' when we go on road trips. We just got back from a few days in Yamba so we had to take advantage of the local fare. Same goes when we were in Bundy back in October. Otherwise, no fast food for us.

Enjoy your time in the U.S. Bring me back some NY pizza will ya?

Sal's in Sydney (they have a couple of joints in the city) do a decent NY-style pizza. Not much different from the ones I've had over in NY.

I'd like to get back to the States sometime soon. Just waiting for the kids to be big enough to take them to Disneyland.

Went to Sal's at wynyard the other weekend.

It definitely hit the spot after a dozen Great Northern's in the arvo before we moved to the next pub to continue drinking.

I used to spend way too much on work lunches quite a few years ago. would be at least $25 a day, every day. Sometimes more.

Was a stupid kid at the time. I just wonder how much I would have saved just by taking my lunch to work instead. Could have put it all into Bitcoin and be a millionaire now, FFS!

Yep, that's the one I've been to a couple of times.
I tend to stay off the Great Northerns though. I had one last week because it was all my mother-in-law had in the fridge. I was not a fan.

Where did your travels in the US take you?

I used to go and get subway 3 or 4 times a week for lunch about 8-9 years ago.

Now its basically 3 or 4 times a year if that.

Left overs or fresh bread rolls which are 80c a roll from the bakery near where i am with a mixture of ham, tuna or chicken with cheese and tomato is the lunch for me now.

My brother lives in northern California (near Sacramento) so we spend a lot of time there. He's in a great spot, not far from San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Napa Valley. Been to all of those more than once.

I've seen NY, Philly and Washington DC. Also Hawaii.
Would love to see a lot more of that country, but been a bit hard. When I had the time I didn't have the funds, then when I had the funds I didn't have the time.

If the super crisp Northern is on tap at the pub i am drinking it.

It goes down best for me but everyone is different.

Love a fresh bread roll.
Even just with a bit of butter and they are so good.
