Shocking news from Bangkok this AM. Terrible loss of life in a bomb blast in a popular retail district (Siam Paragon, Intercontinental if you know it).

My uncle is an ex-pat there and is safe.

EDIT: Jimmy Barnes was on the skywalk above the scene as the bomb(s) went off. He was staying at Hotel Erawan next to the shrine. His family were contemplating the footpath but chose the skywalk instead.

Very few (if any) soldiers had a problem with 'shit happens'. They say stuff like that themselves, which is why it didn't hurt his popularity with the ADF.

The only people who had a problem with Abbott's comments were the same ones who despise and patronise the ADF anyway - leftist media and politicians, and their supporters.

The left despise the ADF ? Funny how is was the opposition who went in to bat for the ADF when Abbott screwed the ADF over last year with the 1.5% "increase".

You may well have a bee in your bonnet about historical ADF cuts but I guess we all have different ideologies in that regard.

Anyway, you enjoy your time in the sun. Your man Abbott is clearly not going to upset you considering that it's all about jobs, growth and national security. The later point will excite you considering that he reckons that going OTT about it will get him votes.

A meeting of the National Security committee of the cabinet has, however, recently asked for a list of national-security-related things that could be announced weekly between now and the election.

The left despise the ADF ? Funny how is was the opposition who went in to bat for the ADF when Abbott screwed the ADF over last year with the 1.5% "increase".

I believe in reduced government spending. The fact is that government employees have it far too good, and that includes the members of the ADF.

As for the ALP, they believe in increased spending, sure, but not necessarily for Defence. Mostly they believe in opportunism, like any other political party. Hence going 'in to bat for the ADF'.

I think the plan is to charge $100k registration fee for every gay wedding, and $200k for every wedding involving intersexuals. This should easily pay for 0.5% relief at the top marginal rate, and perhaps an even bigger capital gains tax concession for those struggling property investors.

I hope Leigh Sales grills him on the issue.

Tax cuts aren't funded by anything. They are a loss of income, not a cost.
