Tax cuts aren't funded by anything. They are a loss of income, not a cost.

In this case the distinction is important but I guess you knew that already. The alternative is that you have an unconsidered assumption that the government is entitled to people's money.

You understand that the government uses money raised with taxes to build us things like hospitals and schools and roads and stuff like that, right?

They don't have a big pool full of money ala Scrooge McDuck in Canberra.

You're also dead wrong about tax cuts needing to be "Funded" it's a weird term, yes, but the shortfall from the reduction of tax income has to be made up (i.e. funded) by cutting spending somewhere.

I'm sure you know all this, cause you seem like a smart dude. Taxes are necessary, otherwise how do you expect the Government to fund public programs like health and education, and the police and the army, and all the other services that are directly funded by the taxpayer?

Seems that Hockey's Tax cuts might come from widening the GST base and include health services ? That's the rumour going around anyway. Hence why the states baulked at the simple concession sought by women to have the GST on tampons etc repealed like they are on condoms etc.

He still needs consensus from all states, but perhaps they have mooted this as a compromise ?

Wonder if GST on health will raise enough to offer bracket creep relief plus have enough left over for the states ?

Also, is GST on health a GP co-payment by stealth ?

Of course they don't, as Pou will be sure to remind us, they use to, but Ruddy and Gillard spent it all.

Continue.

Guns don't kill people; episode 2,212,549.

Merkin walks up to jouno live on air and pops the reporter and cameraman. Both dead.

By any chance are there any Sydney FC fans here?

If so, would anyone be interested in buying a signed jersey?

I know someone who organised a charity auction for Kick for Africa (http://www.kickforafrica.com.au/) and one of the items that did not go was the Sydney FC jersey.

So, if anyone is a fan (or would otherwise be interested in it) and wants to contribute to a good cause, then hit me up.

Also, another item was a Brett Lee/Sydney Sixers signed jersey/shirt thing.
