Non Qld team support in Qld

It doesn't matter a flying f*#k north of the Tweed if you follow another NRL club. The only clubs you hear anything about are the Brisbane Donkeys or the Cowboys.

Its a sort of a treat when you have to travel south and get the opportunity to pick up a southern rag (a newspaper) and find that the sports sections actually report 'stuff' on the other clubs in the comp.

I have lived in Qld for over 26 years now and I still get a laugh out of the chip on the shoulder bandwagoners that live up here.

I still laugh at 'our Frankie Farina' and LeRoy Loggins. When a Brissie team is on top they have crowds through the roof, as soon as the slide hits, you never hear about them.

Those living south should see the crap they are going on about the Brisbane Roar right now... breaking a club record for a non stop winning streak, breaking the old Eastern Suburbs RL clubs record. Sh!t how many draws did the Roosters have in that winning streak.

It's laughable up here.

The editorial of the Courier Mail, which is just the Daily Tele with a different masthead, and about 4 or 5 local stories isn't representative of all of QLD's views.

Its funny how one mans bias is anothers good commentating though (i.e. Phil Gould).

Speaking for myself QLD guys my age (mid 30's) that I know, if they dont supporter the Broncos or Cowboys tend to support the Doggies or Parra. Because when were were at an impressionable age those teams were always playing in Grand Finals (80's).

The Broncos had their highest total attendance since 1993 in 2010 despite missing the 8.

Tigers...plenty of former inner-city folks have moved to QLD.

I had a few mates at school that were tigers supporters. Haha whenever I went to Knights/Origin games at Suncorp in my Knights jersey, I got a fair few high 5s and pats on the back. Never knew any Knights fans though

For me it's a no-brainer. Canberra. I loved them ever since the years when they had guys like Meninga, Belcher and Steve Walters...

Same here.

I guess you could look at the crowd figures for the three QLD teams to see which away team is a bigger draw.

Thats pretty much just the media though. I have not spotted 1 single piece of Roar merchandise being worn in Brisbane, not one.

Well we are the most popular team in Sydney, it would only stand to reason we would be popular in Brisbane and other parts of QLD.

In my experience it's the Dragons, Dogs, Warriors in that order. Also I notice lots of Manly jerseys and shirts around but it probably helps that they're maroon :)

ps Quigs most Broncos fans that are also (or primarily) RL fans would prefer to hear more about other clubs as well, if only to shut certain whinging immigrants up. But News Ltd is News Ltd.

In terms of pure numbers, the Dragons are by far the best supported non-QLD team up here. It's mainly due to the fact that most of them were kids during the glory days who jumped on the bandwagon and then moved north at some point in their life - there aren't many younger dragons fans up here.

The Storm are popular as well purely because of their QLD contigent, in the eyes of a lot of people up here they are just the second Brisbane team.

In terms of support in QLD compared to support in their home area, the Raiders almost have as many fans in QLD as we do in Canberra. A lot of that comes from the Raiders being the original Melbourne team (ie - all the Queensland team used to play for the green machine and people stuck with them).

1- Dragons
2- NZ
3- Dogs

Parra, Storm and the Raiders also normally have a healthy contigent at the Broncos games.

On the other side, Sharks, Panthers and surprisingly (or not) 50uff$, seem to be the least supported up here.

Dragons and Warriors no doubt about it. That's judging by the games I went to at Lang Park and Skilled Stadium this year.

Didnt the St George glory years correspond with the first wireless broadcast of the SRL to Queensland? Dont know if it can be put down to a migration pattern

Places like Logan tend to have a lot more Warriors fans.

Parra have decent support, saw two bumper stickers and a flag flying at someone's house today.

Illasox have a lot of fans but they tend to be older.

The few times I've picked it up I've noticed the bulletin does a good job promoting the Tits while still covering the rest of the league. Mike Coleman is the reason I don't read the Courier Mail. He puts Ginglis to shame at being the biggest turncoat. The once Nth Sydney, NSW, Rugby league through and through seemed to have a lobotomy when he moved north.

The Dragons are rightfully number 1 as has been pointed out but Parramatta's follwing up north seems to be underestimated.

It may be the way draw has been strucutured in that the Eels haven't seemed to have played at Suncorp very frequently of late. They have the Broncos in round 1, 2012 and I would be very suprised if there was much of a difference in terms of crowd figures between to what the local derby normally draws.
