Gus Gould has shed light on his role in the St George Illawara Dragons end of season review after reports surfaced this week that the former Rugby League administrator will perform an independent evaluation of the club.

Speaking with Julian King, Gould opened up about the ongoing conversations he has had with Dragons officials, and claims that Dragons has nothing to worry about with the incoming review.

“Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a couple of conversations with Paul McGregor and he indicated that after their last game against the Titans, that there would be an end of year review”, Gould said.

“Every club goes through a season review, it’s not unusual and it is part of your forward planning for the next twelve months. As the CEO Brian Johnston indicated, the review takes on more significance when you’ve had a disappointing year, so it’s usually an internal review”

“It was mainly Paul McGregor saying that we just want an independent set of eyes and ears over the situation. I went and had a meeting with Brian Johnston this week about whether or not they needed this review, and whether or not I was the right man to conduct it as well”.

After finishing this season in 15th place, Gould claims that although the findings in the review will be of huge significance, he won’t be talking about it with anyone else other than Dragons officials.

“I won’t be discussing with anyone about what I find in the review. That will be for whoever I have to report too at the Dragons. This is not a paid exercise, this is merely a favour to a bloke I used to coach in Paul McGregor”, Gould stated.

“There’s no worse place in an NRL club when you are struggling and you can’t see the forest from the trees and you feel like the world is closing in on you. I know what the Dragons are going through”.

After signing a new two-year deal earlier in the year, Dragons Coach Paul McGregor has come under fire for his sides lacklustre performances, but Gould says this review will have nothing to do with future of McGregor.

“The review has got nothing to do with Paul’s future as it has been described to me. There has certainly been no indication in any conversation I’ve had with people at the Dragons that Paul McGregor’s position is in doubt or in jeopardy”, Gould stressed.

“I think the whole review is about future planning and making sure the club can do everything they can to provide the right resources around Paul, his coaching staff and his players, so they can achieve their best.”

Well that saids it all , to put it in everyday basic English - the shat ain’t gonna hit the fan !

The worst possible scenario is about to take place , Mary’s mate the human football Gus Gould will indeed be conducting an ‘ end of season ‘ review however McGregors performance will not be part of it - what the f**k ?

Every man and his dog realizes that the reason the Dragons have finished in 15th place ( and for you ignorant members of the board there are only 16 teams ) is due to the coaches lack of ability in all major facets of the game of rugby league - the man is a dud and no amount of window dressing is going to change that .

The supporters of the Big Red V have had a absolute gutful of the poor and at times downright soul destroying performances served up by our team . The coach has NO clue whatsoever, the players have lost their will to win and finally you gentlemen who run and represent this once prestigious and most famous teams in world sport have let us down miserably . You should all hang your heads in shame ! Spare us all this constant stream of propaganda that “ we will look into this etc. etc. “ and just say that we have no inclination to solve these pressing problems as we really have no idea how to .

So therefore I as a loyal supporter of the Dragons for 60 odd years say -
SACK THE BOARD ! -SACK THE BOARD ! - SACK THE BOARD ! - SACK THE BOARD ! - SACK THE BOARD ! -
As this is the only way that the Big Red V can be saved .

How the hell should Mary be requesting anything. He is the coach who took us nowhere. Should someone higher be doing the requesting to review the football operations review. Coaches and all related staff and the players.
When the hard tasks appear, BJ goes missing. It should be his responsibility or organise and chair a review. Sure you can have Gould as a consultant but never have the main target of the review involved in hiring the consultant.

At most clubs, coaches take responsibility for most things to do with football at their club. At SGI so many duties have been shed for Mary and distributed to other old boys. In addition Mary has so many assistants and yet nothing improves.

To justify Mary's extension early this season, our CEO Brian Johnston said the most compelling reason for extending him so early in the season was the fact that he could keep the squad together and performing well during the De Belin legal process. Well he was wrong then and wrong now to indicate that Mary is not a target of the review.

I have followed the Dragons for about 60 years and my family and friends would say that I am a mad Dragons supporter always wearing my Dragons jumper on game day even when not at the ground. Now I am quickly losing interest but will never follow another team, I really feel like just going fishing instead.

Mc Gregor has achieved negative growth in the performance of the NRLteam over five and-a- half years. Young will be retained despite poor forward selection and coaching and tissue like defence and Hornby and Head whose CC team came first will be sacked.
The Board has rocks in its head. Demetriou and Head are the only decent coaches that the Club has had since Bennettl left. Frank Facer our Saint in heaven must be very disappointed at this rabble!

What a waste of everyone's time....
A parade of assistants and consultants have already been through the place and have made absolutely no difference to the fact that McGregor is just not up to FG standard as a coach.
At some point, the club has to start being objective and honest with their most important asset - the fans.

So it’s all about Paul and having the right resources.

He had the team he wanted, he has churned through assistants and his players have achieved their best, I mean look at the improvement and performances of the first picked each week I.e. Aiken, Lafai, Plodimore. And don’t forget the excellent mid season purchase of kafussi.

I’m afraid there is only so much the club, or for that matter, anyone can do for someone who has proved time and again he is not up to it.

Save yourself time, piss him off now, appoint a new coach who can start working on the roster and building a rapport with the players. It ain’t rocket science.
