Now Is The Time

If ever there was a moment in time that can put Parramatta back on a structure that has the potential to win a comp IT IS NOW.

For years and years, in fact decades we have been screaming for our half and 5/8 to be our best players.

Not since Kenny and Stirling have we had an opportunity to play our best player in the halves.

With Burt's standout perfomance against the Titans at FULLBACK and with this season basically being labelled a 'right off and a development year' by Kearney it is an absolute necessity to put Hayne into his best position of 5/8.

Hayne is a natural ball player. He can throw the best of cut out balls and knows when and how to run the ball when the opportunity arises.

IMO he has an opportnity to be the best 5/8 in the game but at Fullback he may be above average but will never reach the heights of Billy Slater and NOW Benny Barba.

I don't buy the arguement about this being unsuccessful in 2009. He is a far superior footballer (and older) now to what he was back then. I would also suggest that the 2009 5/8 experiment helped him have the year he had in which we made a GF and he won a Dally M!!

We need Hayne to be the best 5/8 in the game. We don't need him to be the best fullback in the game, we have a damn good one already. It's also a position that is used to promote new young talent into 1st grade.

For the last decade we have paid a back rower to be our top salary cap earner. Let's learn from this mistake and make our highest earner a HALF or 5/8. PLEASE!!!

How about we keep him at fullback, but he plays a first or second reciever role in the opposition thirty. That way he doesn't make a heap of tackles, and will be our chief play maker.

Ok, i was not sold on the Hayne 5/8 idea til sunday. Burt is wasted on the wing, too much talent for a winger and needs to play fullback, which mean Hayne can't goto the wing he has too much talent also so he has to goto the 5/8. There will be many more scoring oppotunties made from burt at FB and Hayne 5/8. Burt showed what he can do and how he has a footy brain on sunday he just needs to get more ball centre field. Would not matter who was wearing no.7 the 6 and 1 will provide most of the attack.

^^^^^^^^^ This, in 09 he was the best player on the planet at fullback. Maybe if Kearney can build a spine around him to help take the pressure of him and can get back there. He can play the 2nd reciver role from the back without all the defence.

Seriously, the constant new topics just to raise the same point about moving Hayne is ridiculous. We all have had our say on it and we all know some out there want him there but creating countless threads on the same topic serves no purpose. It has been debated over and over and does not need to be debated again twice a week every week.

firstly, you more often than not cannot effectively be a chief playmaker from fullback

secondly, let's compare making perhaps 30+ tackles at 5/8 to carting the ball back about 20 times into the teeth of a set line in defence from fullback???? i think 5/8 expends less energy to be honest, Morts can do it....

Burt was wonderful and clever with the ball in hand, but in defence it was a different story

it may have beena djusting back to the type of defence required when playing fullback, or he may be a tad weak for that nowadays...?

Considering hayne has the best passing, running and kicking game, that to me suggests he can play 5/8. But why put him there, if it means making 30 tackle and zapping his energy. In the opposition 30, let him call the shots. Our halves are incompentent. Letting hayne call the shots is the only way. I can't see points coming from anywhere else.

If Brad Fittler, Wally Lewis, Darren Lockyer & Brett Kenny can do it so can Jarryd Hayne.
Assuming he loves the freedom and the wind blowing through his hair, as a 1, Jarryd can only be a gazelle for so long.
Built big like Jarryd, Graham Eadie was a far better fullback than Jarryd Hayne. Graham's positional play is still miles in front of Jarryd and Graham was a far more busier player for 80 minutes than Jarryd.
Based on the 2010 season and this seasons first 7 rounds, Jarryd does not show the signs of being a specialist 80 minute fullback.
I agree, Jarryd should be encouraged to become a 5/8 and mould his game around great players like Wally Lewis.
Maybe Jarryd doesn't like playing tough for 80 minutes but if he ever decides to take this on, disregarding the preservation of his "pretty boy" looks, he may become the greatest player in the history of Rugby League & at worst, join the list of current immortals.

Maybe. I think we need a rant thread where all these topics are placed after they have been debated once and then they can feel free to constantly bring up the same topic over and over.

Does anyone seriously think Burt's best position is anything other than wing?????????

Now is the time to: keep Hayne at FB where he is at his most dangerous, and look at signing someone who can play halfback.

F**k me dead, im so over these threads, leave jarryd at fullback, let him lead the attach inside the 30.

Leave jarryd at fullback, and stop these stupid threads.

Hayne can play 1 or 6 he has to play with energy every game but would need to work on his D if he was to make 6 his home.

Prior to this week I would have said no... but seriously we CANNOT continue to persevere with a Morts/Robson halves combination and given what Burt showed he can do at fullback on the weekend I think moving Hayne to 5'8th should be done sooner rather than later.

Put Morts to bench to play back up 7,6,9 Robson will play steady to allow Hayne to create , but dont expect miracles he needs to be left there, but needs to improve his D playing in the line.

I haven't been on in a while and I'm going to say this once and I really don't care who hounds me for putting up a potential team list, but if we really wanted to play with our strongest 17 each week based on the availability of players in our squad for this year:

1) Burt
2) Walker
3) Reddy
4) Loko
5) Hicks
6) Hayne
7) Humble
13) Maitua
12) Smith
11) Hindmarsh (c)
10) Moi Moi
8) Mannah
9) McGuire

14) Mitchell
15) Horo
16) Shackleton
17) Poore

I put Walker and Hicks on the wings for their experience.

Yes I realize all those players aren't available, but assuming all of them were this side would probably be a much better defensive side & creative side attackingly.

Alternatively we could go with:

1) Hayne
2) Burt
3) Reddy
4) Loko
5) Walker
6) Humble
7) Robson
13) Maitua
12) Smith
11) Hindmarsh
10) Moi Moi
8) Mannah
9) McGuire

14) Mitchell
15) Horo
16) Shackleton
17) Poore

Either way Humble needs to come into the side and whatever he's "done" needs to be forgiven, because we need this bloke getting game time under his belt and playing FG ASAP.
