NRL Boss doesn't even know who the Cronulla Sharks are

Gus Gould was on his podcast and said he thinks he confused Peter Beattie the way the question was put him. And he seemed to think Beattie thought he was referring to some junior league's team and blurted out he didn't know.

I actually think its quite funny Sharks fans on here who are suggesting this is a hangable offence.

Beattie has been given praise the way he handled running the Commonwealth games, he also was premier when they decided that Lang Park would be getting an upgrade. A development that has helped Queensland Rugby league till this day.

The last bloke didn’t know the sharks or the eagles either and got crucified for it. Beatie is worse because it just happened again. Mind boggling. There are no words.

100% politician resume man.

I can understand Grant calling Manly the Seagulls because he played for Souths in the Brisbane comp against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, so that was a fair mistake. Though he got crucified for it as the media had an agenda.
Beattie use to work for News Ltd so they will go easy on him compared to Grant and Smith.

Who has suggested it’s a hangable offence?

The way Carcharias has jumped all over it and used it as ammunition that hiring Beattie hiring was a mistake.

"Surely a good knowledge of the history of the game and even an actual interest in the game would be a prerequisite for the top job."

You actually would be surprised how many sport executives that have crossed over sports from job to job (Malcolm Speed). There have been hiring's from people outside the square for a business to get a fresh new set of eyes.

He's a politician, they love the pub test.

Beattie tells anyone who'll listen what a RL tragic he is. If some loudmouth at the pub kept telling you he has RL in his veins but couldn't name one of the 16 sides even with multiple choice answers are you gonna believe him?

Haha
A f**king Queenslander sticking up Beattie.

My actual concern is who the f**k hired this clueless merkin.

When the ARLC was first forming & John Howard was spoken about as Boss I thought it was a great idea . & I hated Howard's guts
To have an ex pollie with political connections is a good thing .
Don't get me wrong 99.9% of pollies are useless self centered merkins .
But in a business ...connections are invaluable .
Beattie doesn't need to know every little thing about RL
He is there for the other side of RL .
The GOVT funding etc

Just look at how much the AFL have gouged out of Govts for their stadia across the country due to influencing politicians .

Things that Flanno is offended by:

- Twisting players legs
https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/03/14/shane-flanagan-warns-gavin-cooper-his-reputations-at-stake/

- Winning soft comps
https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/sh...h/news-story/4748e626d73f8e90d76bd9bbf682a7e3

- Being called out for juvenile behaviour in press conferences
http://www.nospam47.com/au/league/n...k-hard-at-greenberg/8rgiwdyii0cs1onrk82qjt3s1

Probably harbours a world of woe (Credit Malcolm) over this Beattie fiasco as well.

The most offended coach in the NRL.

This is the sort on inconsequential BS that the media are intent on reporting on over stuff that actually directly pertains to the way the game is shaped.

Mind you, when their readership is involved in 10 thread pages of debate on it, no wonder they write it - they've got an audience.

Peter Beattie will be able to get in at bureaucratic level and get stuff done. Not knowing the nickname of a club, which is readily accessible via his smart phone, will not hinder anything he's able to achieve at administrative level. PR-wise it might hurt him for 5 minutes, but he'll move on and make progress.

It is a byline, but its a weird, funny and completely NRL thing to do.

It was always going to be a story. You could see the panel in 100% Footy knew it immediately. Gus didn’t intend to trip him up, quite the opposite, but Beattie in his first speech to the masses stuffed up in exactly the same way the last Chairman did.

It would have been written about in 1968, let alone now. Woods’ haircut on the other hand...
