NRL Byes in 2023 and Draw

Messages

This season there are three byes - do teams get two points for each of the three byes (6 points) or only for two of these three byes ( 4 points )

Also I am at a loss to understand how teams are having their second of three bye's and some teams are yet to have their first of three bye's as of round 13.

Not to mention how teams are playing a team a second time when they haven't played all teams once

Surely a draw can be designed so that teams play the other teams once before playing a team a second time - plus all teams have their first bye before teams are having their second one.

2 points per bye. Some media or publications add the 2 points at the beginning of the round, others during the weekend and others on the Sunday after the round.
As for the draw and teams getting two byes while others haven’t had any… you’re getting into twilight zone territory

I thought the bye points had to be added at 1:26pm (AEST) every Saturday. Anything else is just plain crazy.

I heard that it’s a conspiracy that some teams will have 2 byes before others have any to ensure there are 2 Sydney teams there on grand final day.

Souths and Brisbane have their 1st bye in Round 16 - the same weekend the Titans have their 3rd bye. It's all backwards.

They should just go on win percentages. Count draws as half a win (e.g. Manly/Knights have won 5.5 from 12).

So the current ladder would look something like:

100% this is the most accurate way to go.

Then if they have everyone play the other 16 teams before playing anyone a 2nd time we might have something.

Never has before. I'm with you on the frustration.

Obviously this is the more accurate ladder - but it's not like the NRL ladder with Byes included is a complete misrepresentation.

7 of 17 teams are in the right spot.
Another 6 of the 10 incorrect teams are within 1 position.
The top 8 for both ladders consists of the same teams - with 5 of the 8 positions being the same.
Only the Eels are grossly misplaced (-4 spots).

I do agree that the draw (and allocation of byes) is ridiculous though. But it's always going to be a mess while they play Origin mid-season.

The allocation of byes are dumb, but couldn’t give a f**k whether you get points for them or not, every team ends with the same amount. It’s a non-issue.

Get rid of the byes.

Can we do a poll for PVL to act upon. As that what generally forces changes isnt it a Fan Poll.
only fair thing to get rid of the byes would be for the loser of the Thursday night game to play the 17th team on the Sunday

Probably shows a more true reflection of where everyone is at, the downside is you’re asking rugby league fans to do Math beyond simple addition.

Why do we give 2 points for a bye?

2 points for not playing? Just give zero points.

It creates a false ladder.

Broncos have won 9 games, no byes are 3rd on the ladder (same points) behind Penrith and Cronulla who have 7 wins 2 byes. Same with the Rabbitohs, they are 6th 8 wins, no byes yet have more wins than every team bar the broncos above them.
