I put what I thought out there pages ago. I am happy to quote for you again if you can't find it.

If you are prepared to add constructively to the discussion by answering the questions aren't you simply a troll? They are reasonable questions given the thread.

So a 'troll' is somebody who disagrees with you and who refuses to have you dictate the conversation.

Grow up you peanut!

You talking to me?

I'm not suggesting any change to Sydney clubs in the short term.

Still can't see what's stopping them expanding to 18 teams by 2018.

Whatever makes you sleep at night, again why not add to the discussion by suggesting what the comp should look like in the future.

What a goose! Your bloody Club is a joke - it does not even have a senior comp in its original district.

You cannot pay your rent. Your crowds at your 'spiritual homes' are pathetic.

Sharks look quite sexy compared to your mob!

Yep. Its funny though that so many people want less Clubs in Sydney just as long as its not theirs that goes!

I appreciate your point of view and 18 team comp may be the answer. My gut reaction is that 16 teams are better.

Ever noticed the teams Nine wants to show each week into Sydney?

Surprisingly they aren't the out of towners.

Less Sydney teams, less Sydney derbies.

Except for the Roosters, we all know why they are shown on tv but bring very little crowd wise. They get a leg up, like the Broncod with corporate support for being on tv so often and 9 who have you believe they are one of the big Sydney clubs

As had been mentioned, must have been in a coma 1995-2000 and missed the carnage the last time.

This is where I disagree. Dismissing Souths was a totally different kettle of fish. It was bigger than Souths it was about what was perceived to be a News Ltd controlled league getting rid of a grass root club. The people that marched for Souths weren't limited to their supporters. Every ARL aligned team supporters were cheese off by that move.

What about long term?

Because in all seriousness it's very unlikely that we'll lose any Sydney clubs before 2025.

As had been mentioned, must have been in a coma 1995-2000 and missed the carnage the last time.

You and I both know that those times were completely different, and the losses were under completely different circumstances.

Besides what's had a worse effect on RL and the NRL as a whole over the last 16 years, the loss of a handful Sydney clubs (whether it be to merger or whatever). Or the loss of a club on the Gold Coast for 10 year, the loss of a second club in Brisbane and the losses of clubs in Adelaide and Perth?

The real carnage happened far outside of Sydney's borders and has had a far greater effect on the games overall position in this country and the world then the loss of a few thousand Sydney based fans ever could have.

What a load of nonsense! They already cover the North Shore and a million people. Their crowds are appalling.

No we don't, we only officially cover the Northern Beaches, the North Shore is still controlled, bizarrely, by the Bears under the NSWRL rules/borders, Manly isn't allowed in to do development work etc as it's not (officially) our territory. Instead of just allowing the Bears to die and Manly to move in and develop the area, the Bears have been kept alive thanks to the CC pipe dream and their partnership with Souths (which does nothing for the area). So we could be covering the North Shore, and a million+ people, that's our potential, but we can't at the moment thanks to old NSWRL bureaucracy and a CC bid that's dead in the water.

What are the rules on territory and development work?? Because this just sounds bizarre...

Problem is the NRL arguably needs four new areas to maximise its pot still growth opportunities. That's in the region of $40mill a year before you talk about player depth. Throw into that the number of clubs that have the begging bowls out just to stay afloat and the question becomes can the NRL afford a 20 team comp into the future? Then you put in the real possibility of a two tier league developing between the haves and have nots.

No easy answers, someone is going to be disappointed, either fans sat with no club hoping they might get one or die hards supporting these poorer clubs who may one day see them gone or merged.

That article is from four years ago, is there still the same issues? If so the NRL need to make a decision on the Central Coast Bears so everyone can move on.

I'm not sure, only that the situation is still the same, the Bears still oversee the North Shore area, they're still partnered with Souths, and Manly isn't doing work in the area at the moment. That's exactly what needs to happen though, once a decision is made, either Manly will now have a much bigger, stronger base and will be able to work with the North Shore, or an expansion slot will be filled. Given the over abundance of Sydney clubs, the CC Bears are a bad idea IMO, and given that the Roosters have been given permission to oversee development on the CC and link up with Wyong, I think the bid is now dead in the water.
