how exactly could anyone even pretend to be happy when getting asked questions from grubs like Massoud, Weedler, Rothfield etc etc ?

start each conference by thanking them for all the money they help them make. Come out dressed in a tuxedo smoking a cigar - have a 5 minute prepared statement.

Yes, but not just them. Give interesting press conferences and you will have more than just grubs turn up and ratings will go up.

Maybe set agendas for the press conferences

Have journalists submit questions before the press conference and a club official scan them for which ones to be answered. Dumb or off topic questions can then be ignored

In the US they seem to start with an update on injuries - take a few minutes over that, make a few statements and then the reporters ask sensible, intelligent questions. They also have the defensive coordinators at the press conference. There is just full mutual respect.

The coaches over there get it. If they can't talk to the media intelligently and enthusiastically I doubt they would have a job to begin with. Some of the dumb shits out here it is no wonder we end up with drop kick players like Mitch Pearce who can barely speak. There has got to be more to talk about then how bad the refs are and how everything is their fault.

Be like pollies and just give the answers you want regardless of the question.
Reporter; Is Boyd injured
Bennett: I thought we played well and defensively we were strong
Reporter: Was boyds injury bad?
Bennett: We have worked hard on our defence and it showed tonight
next

lol that would work.

If the quality of reporters were better then press conferences would be better, it's not the coaches faults. Worse thing after the high of the win or the depth of a loss would be to sit down and recieve inane questions from the likes of massaud or andy raymond. From memory they used to have press conferences on the monday night after show but they had all the entertainment and fun of attending your own mothers funeral.

Bill Bellichick ring a bell? He doesn't tolerate the press AT ALL.

Gregg Popovich?? He hates press conferences more than Bellichick. Even with Craig Sager who he considered a friend his answers were extremely short and outright dismissive.

Nick Saban?? Lol. Makes the other 2 look like saints.

Some coaches just think the press are to be endured at best. They offer them no respect.

Time to have a NRL media leason coach both the coach/captain and the media

Thats why I beleive questions should be submitted

And only the best 5 get answered

Dump the free form sessions

Major corporations do it all the time when taking employee questions

which one? Soccer, union, Afl's, netball, basketball's, cricket, NRL?
Oh forgot were the only sport not big enough to have a coach here lol.

i heard Dank is moving to Perth

how much did Perth make or lose?

hopefully that means no Perth as they would be a basket case

how much do Perth spend?

seems like a good enough reason to not introduce a Perth team

the Perth coach always has some interesting stuff to say at press conferences

which is yet another reason why we should never introduce a team from Perth.

And they say I'm fixated on a Perth side lol

Ok, I'll just pick on Nick Saban. Go listen to his press conference after the win against Washington.

He gave a 1 minute statement - then took questions for 10 minutes and it was better than any press conference ever given by an NRL coach except maybe for Tommy Raudonikis. At about the 9 minute mark he randomly starts talking about an article written by one of his injured players Eddie Jackson. By the end of his "Eddie Jackson how great is football" rant his own player (Bo Scarborough) wanted to give him a BJ.
