NRL Goes Back to the Bush

Brisbane are too corporate play games in the bush. They've also got a contract to play 12 games at Suncorp.
Next time they negotiate a stadium deal they'll take the city corporate dollars over goodwill in the bush, even though they have players from all over QLD playing/played for them.

Not to mention they would lose 20k crowd if they moved to a regional venue.

The Broncos through SL put the game back by 15 years, they should be forced to put back into the game, but never will

They should get Lee Kernaghan and Troy Casser Daly to do the NRL theme this year.

Hell...get em to re-record Simply The Best.

For a touch of glamour/youth chuck in Jessica Mauboy on vocals too.

1 game per round should be played "on the road"..

Give Perth & Adelaide a game each, each month and play 2 games in the bush,so a 4 wk schedule would look like this

Wk1 Perth
Wk2 bush
Wk3 Adelaide
Wk4 bush

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Townsville and Melbourne (not counting Auckland bc Warriors always take a game elsewhere in NZ) all get literally only 12 chances to watch footy each year. Forcing any of them to take a game to the country isn't that smart.

Good point.

+ Newcastle
And
+ only 5 games in Wollongong

Monday Night Footy (R.I.P) is an ideal vehicle for fixtures to be played in regional centres and smaller 'heritage' Sydney grounds eg Henson Park, Belmore.

Imagine if Broncos v Knights in Rockhampton on a Monday night. Teams would fly in Friday night, spend the weekend doing clinics, guest refereeing junior games, open training sessions etc. Then on Monday after work, 8000 locals make their way to Browne Park while the rest of the nation watches MNF on Foxsports.

Replicate this over 18-20 rounds and watch the NRL pull further ahead of the AFL as the nation's premier sporting code.

Well done NRL! This is exactly what needed to happen following the scrapping of City / Country and it has actually improved the presence in the bush. Hopefully this is followed up with a nice increase in grassroots funding.

Crowd in Toowoomba today for the Titans vs Dragons game was around 7000 which is a pretty good effort. Gus Gould praised the preparation of the field and the surface for the game. Titans play in Gladstone in a couple of weeks.

Despite the game being one sided it was a great event for the Toowoomba public to go out and see genuine NRL players in premiership footy on the local ground. Toowoomba is Rugby League and the crowd didn't disappoint. If I wasn't on holiday I would have probably driven up for the game. I hope the NRL play 1 game a year in Toowoomba in the future.

QLD teams should certainly be thinking about taking their dragons games to the country. Amazing the level of support that we seem to have throughout QLD.
