It's probably a good idea to take games in the 6pm timeslot to rural cities. Unlike the major cities it's much easier getting to the grounds for that timeslot and I'd be surprised if it would have much impact on crowds at all.

QLD teams should certainly be thinking about taking their dragons games to the country. Amazing the level of support that we seem to have throughout QLD.
Mate yesterday it looked like a Dragons home game
The crowd would have been
70% dragons
15% neutral
15% Titans

The Dragons have a big following in the Toowoomba region
Probably the most popular of the interstate teams
So do the dogs

I heard the reason why the Dragons are so popular is because back in the day they would tour regional centres, socialise with the locals and play against the local team. This left people with a positive outlook on them and it turned them into supporters. As I said in the game thread my mum and her family are Toowoomba born and bred and one of her sisters was a diehard St George fan.

That's really nice to hear about our club.

I'd always sort of assumed that our support up there was because we were a successful club at a time when the nswrl was the premier comp, and qlders got on board when they were choosing teams. Nice to hear that the club was actually proactive. Should be more of it.

It goes back to the 50’s and 60’s mate. When clubs went on their end of year trip most went to the USA or somewhere like that but St George would go into regional areas which strengthened their ties to a lot of country towns and even in Western Australia (they went there in 1965). As a result so many aspiring players wanted to be St George players. They found Kevin Ryan in this way and I think Johnny King as well. And of course who wouldn’t want to play for that magnificent St George side of 1956-1966

Really? I'd suggest players from that era went back to their jobs rather than the USA on end of season trips.

There was mention of end of year trips and if I read the book correctly USA was mentioned. Maybe they were exaggerating to make a point. The book was never before never again btw.

If anything you get the benefits of televising at what is a totally bullshit time slot in the country, and putting the metro games at a time when people can actually get there.

The 6 0’clock time is pus!

In all fairness, in a lot of the Titans home games, there seems to be more opposition fans than titan fans. They don’t exactly have the biggest fan base.

It's because very few people on the Gold Coast care about sport. It's warm, beautiful and there is so much to do.

The new/old owners are a continuation of the shit Searle left behind, and therefore are disconnecting with the people of the Coast.
