Invest the faker in shares, or small companies are the next big thing here in Australia.
Faking relying on interest at the lowest point is mind numbing.

i simplified it for you, it doesn't have to be interest.

it could be purchasing derivatives, securities, bonds, options, term deposits or most likely, a combination of all that to suit their desired risk profile.

as for 'small companies being the next big thing' give it a shot yourself if youre so certain, you could be the next stock broker billionaire.

okay you clearly dont understand what a future fund is.

dave smith will have 200 million in there in a few years. this should generate around 10 million dollars every year from interest, this money can be used every year forever for rugby league.

if there was some calamity they could potentially also use that money there. e.g. super league.

Some of that future fund money is invested for commercial return and the NRL have investment analysts on staff.

Anyone seen an announcement on the agreement with betting? That was one more area gallop allowed us to get shafted. Maybe announced at the AGM?

Looking forward to seeing the report.
I heard they made 20 million on that corporate betting deal.
So whatever they make next year already has a extra 20 million in front of that figure.
Moon doggy, Smithy is really setting our code up for a strong future.
Perth might even get a team one day. ;-)

$200 million in the bank is nice and all but has Smith learnt the name of some overrated, washed up half yet?

NRL amassing war chest to win battle of the codes and take rugby league into new markets

When you appoint a banker as your CEO, you're not looking to become a charity. The NRL last week announced a $49.9 million surplus for 2014, an astonishing result for a sport that used to exist on cigarette advertising and pokies. Look for David Smith to continue to explore the opportunities to "buy back the farm", in similar deals to the touch football takeover, and to shamelessly prop up clubs that need it. A war chest is being amassed for the battle of the codes and taking the brand to offshore markets is clearly on the agenda. The next TV deal will be worth $2 billion and player recruitment overseas will increase, leaving Super League looking a bit like a feeder competition.

Spreading wings

It's been eight years since a new team was added to the NRL – and you couldn't really call the Titans "expansion" because the game had already tried and failed on the tourist strip. The appointment of Shane Richardson seems certain to put the issue – belatedly – back on the agenda with a second Brisbane team and Perth appearing favourites, ahead of Wellington, Central Queensland and Port Moresby. We're also spreading our wings in regard to venues for our current program, with Napier (controversially) the latest city to be given a match. Sydney fans used to having the lion's share of games without actually going to them have had enough chances. It's the National Rugby League in name only – that's about to change.
