NRL good news

Make this thread a 'sticky' and it would be the most challenging thread in the forum. No mentioning anything detrimental allowed, no discussion on drugs, betting, poaching/rumours, bad behaviour, referee anomalies, administration negativity . . . only the good news

Be interesting, how many people could man up with only the best interests of the game in mind. Crikey, I'd have to give up swearing and do a whole lot more research on the lives of the 99% of League players that are struggling to be recognised

Won't happen, not enough to be gained . . . especially on the main page

So with all this money pouring in, thanks in no small part to us, the NRL should be thanking us right? Cheaper tix? Free round of footy? Cheaper food? Free transport to ANY game not just the cavern? Anything???? Something???

jeez, RL fans truly are a bunch of whingers.

yes the NRL is marking up prices for our premium event. Do you see NFL fans having a bitch that their REGULAR SEASON games cost as much as our state of origin/grand finals? the superbowl costs something like 400 bucks for the cheapest tickets.

they're also improving revenue streams for clubs through merch and what not.

great news for the game here, in a couple of years we will have something like 200 million dollars in a future fund that will help out the game immensely.

but....but.....#codeincrisis??

Just goes to show it ultimately doesn't matter how much the tabloid press talks the game down, it continues to go from strength to strength.

f**k oath. We've been run by morons since 19088. Fans whinge its sub strandard, then whinge when they don't get handouts.

Deadset battlers you lot.

Its a business, not a f**king charity.

Aside from NRLWA what was the second?

Wait, you bitching that the game has become popular? Would you rather they made Origin/GFs free and just not fund junior and amateur football.

You can seriously whine about anything (we need to get you a job with the Telegraph)......

They rebranded when the ARLC took over with the logos.

Not whinging but if your going to spruik that you've increased profits it would be nice to think they have done this by improving their business and bringing in new revenue streams or reducing inefficient costs. Reality is they have just stuck fans for more expensive tickets for the same offering. Maybe it was under priced previously maybe not. Next year they could put the cost of a jersey up to $250 and claim even bigger profits lol.

the nines are a new revenue stream, considering they also increased funding for state leagues and bailed out two clubs and yet at the same time increased profits and revenue suggests that the business did improve efficiency.

Expensive tickets is what you get when your code is popular.....

If you want cheap tickets, you can go to a local game for $5. Sure the quality wont be great, but you get what you pay for.....

In what could be a massive kick in the guts to rugby league, the A-league could beat Brisbane to a second team.
Gallop understands the importance of big city derbies, as do the AFL.

The AFL have a QLD derby... and nobody gives a wet fart. A bit different from a 2nd brisbane AFL side but you see what I mean?

Ok, i see what you mean, and i posted that before this became the good news thread.

Talking about good news, i wonder what we should spend all that cash on that Dave Smith is saving up for another day.

Here is a couple of things i would like to see the commission sink some money into so we have some great asserts.

A Stadium to call our own in Auckland.
Say put in about 75 million and Auckland and NZ government can put in the rest. But we get to own it and pay it off.

A new Leagues super club at Logan. Put in 50 million and the Queensland government can put in the rest.

A western Sydney super stadium, say 50 million towards it, make sure it is 55 thousand seating.

So that is 125 million of good investment,.
Anyone else got any good ideas.

Free Jnr club insurance, free jnr playing kits, a shed load more development officers around the country, a supported senior high schools national program, amateur club ground improvement grants.

You know the not very sexy but incredibly important part of RL that is neglected.

The guy has been there for 2 years. Took over a business that was Mickey Mouse at best, never had a cent to its name and never gave a flying about the grass roots of the game.

Im sure that what youve outlined is all part of the plan. But you need to sure up the ship first.

Problem is the NRL is responsible for the whole game now, there are many ships. Shoring up one whilst ignoring the rest isn't a great strategy for improving participation rates which was laid out as a strategic priority.

Agree with all of your ideas. Very good.

What do you think are the best things achieved by Smith and the commish so far.
The whole NRL under one banner.
Merge with touch.
Added nines and World club challenge to the game so we have more content to sell. ? (i like this one)
More money for NSW and Qld comps.
Brought in PNG.
Looking at Sydney stadiums restructure.
Cleaned up nrl clubs. (work in progress)
Community programs.
Working with government.
Many more,
Proper season growth like indigenous round, anzac round, super hero round,, etc

okay you clearly dont understand what a future fund is.

dave smith will have 200 million in there in a few years. this should generate around 10 million dollars every year from interest, this money can be used every year forever for rugby league.

if there was some calamity they could potentially also use that money there. e.g. super league.

That is a little disappointing then. I thought it would be used to build some asserts and make even more money off those asserts, rather than just investing from interest on cash.
Fake me, i thought Dave Smith being the welsh banker would come up with a better outcome than a boring school banking system.

Anyhow, more good news. This.
