Saw that too. MRS won't be ready for r4. Storm requested away games for first 5 rounds if I remember correctly.

I think it's absolutely disgraceful that there's only 2 games of rugby league in Canberra in 8 weeks (rounds 8-15).

With all those back end of season home games for the raiders, the front runners better hope our away form doesnt pick up, because if we're in striking distance, he'll be making a late charge up the ladder

This is the game Sth's have earmarked for Perth:

Round 16 : June 25 - 28
South Sydney Rabbitohs

vs.
Melbourne Storm

Hope the 1st Storm game is against the Dragons over Easter, I'm def going and would be nice to spend the long weekend in Melbourne. Would love to see melbourne bring one of their early games to Perth, it's the least they could do for raping us in '98!

still no nrl free weekend for test matches. they can stop all of european soccer a number of times throughout the year for internationals, but we cant have 1 weekend put aside so all rugby league playing countries can play tests. i hate our visionless admin. the game is bigger than the nrl and australia, start trying to spread it!

That's nothing. This will be the 10th straight season the Raiders haven't been at home for round 1.

Plus our 2 byes are only separated by 2 rounds. f**k you NRL.

well that is pretty F*cked up also....10 years without Round 1 at home.

Interesting that we're still a week and a half away from the 2009 Grand Final and they're already putting out the draw for 2010. Lats year they put out this year's the week of the Grand Final and in previous years to that they didn't put it out 'til about Christmas.

skeepe, do you think it's at all possible the Raiders requested that? To your advantage you'll have two byes and only two matches in Canberra during the coldest part of the year...

All experts of all codes of sport agree that club competitions are the life blood of sports. Soccer has so much club competitions that it can afford to have a week off for internationals. Our clubs cant afford to have any less matches just yet. Idealy the season would be shorter and therefor have more time to play internationals, but here we are.

How is it to our advantage? Perhaps for crowds, but part of the reason Canberra Stadium is such a hard place to win at for opposition teams is because it is so cold. It just seems like mentally they can't handle it, and that's a huge part of our home ground advantage. This takes it away.

Also quite amused at the fact that the two teams we beat away this year are two of the three teams we won't be playing away next year.

Luck of the draw I guess.

Glad to see we have the bye in round 1 and 2, four easy points to start the season.

And we get Cowboys in the opening few rounds again, I think every year since about 2004 we've had them in the first 10 rounds up there, and every year except 2005 we've had them in the first 5 rounds.

Dragons get early chance for revenge

BY TIM BARROW
24/09/2009 12:21:00 AM

St George Illawarra are set to face their finals conquerors in an early season blockbuster at WIN Stadium next season. As they come to terms with their finals exit, the Dragons are in the preliminary stages of planning for the 2010 season following the release of the NRL draw on Tuesday.

A major task facing the joint venture club's board is separating the 12 home games between their Kogarah and WIN Stadium bases.

Among the Dragons games likely to be played in Wollongong next year is a round five showdown with Brisbane.

The Broncos knocked St George Illawarra out of the finals race last week with a 24-10 win at Suncorp Stadium and also overpowered the Dragons at WIN Stadium in round 24.

The round five clash will come after they clash with the Eels - who beat the minor premiers in the qualifying final - at Parramatta Stadium in the season opener.

Wollongong Dragons fans are likely to be treated to home games against all three Queensland-based clubs this year.

The draw released features Dragons home games with the Cowboys in round three, Broncos in round five and Gold Coast Titans in round 20.
WIN Stadium is also likely to host Canberra in May and possibly last year's premiers Manly in round 23.

Kogarah's WIN Jubilee Oval is expected to be allocated a showdown between St George Illawarra and the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs, who will play in tomorrow night's preliminary final against Parramatta, were controversially denied a try to centre Jamal Idris by the video referee over an incident involving Dragons five-eighth Jamie Soward and Dogs enforcer Greg Eastwood.

Other Sydney games will include the Anzac Day battle with the Roosters, as well as a round eight derby with the Sharks.

The Dragons play Parramatta again in round 12 and consecutive home games against the Wests Tigers and Penrith.

So in short, the likely set-up, according to what was written above...

Round 1 @ Parramatta Parramatta V St George-Illawarra

Round 2 @ Kogarah St George-Illawarra V Canterbury-Bankstown

Round 3 @ Wollongong St George-Illawarra V North Queensland

Time for some venue allocation news...

The above post can probably be scrapped when it comes to the Dragons, they'll be aiming to get all 'Gong games out of the way early in the year:

Illawarra Mercury said:

As they put the disappointment of this year's failed finals campaign behind them, the Dragons will officially return to preseason training in Wollongong on Monday, November 23.

A decision on home games played at WIN Stadium next season has been delayed as the timing of the $30 million western and southern grandstand upgrade is finalised.

A plan has been tabled to play the club's early home games at WIN Stadium, before construction starts.
St George Illawarra's first home game next year is against the Bulldogs in round two.

The Wests Tigers announced their break-up yesterday:

Wests Tigers will play their opening match of the 2010 Telstra Premiership at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The club has today announced its allocation of home matches for Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Leichhardt Oval, Sydney Football Stadium, and the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Due to the on-going redevelopments at Campbelltown and Leichhardt, along with the structure of the premiership draw, Wests Tigers will spend the majority of the opening weeks of the season in the Moore Park precinct.
Wests Tigers will play the Sydney Roosters at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in round eight to mark the official re-opening of the stadium following the $8 million upgrades.
The first match at Leichhardt Oval will be in round 12 against the Warriors.

Scheduling of match days and kick-off times for the first five weeks should be released by the NRL at the end of this month.

The Cronulla Sharks have dismissed the Adelaide deal by the sounds, and will be moving just one game in 2010:

Also included in the blueprint is having 11 home games at Toyota Stadium but taking one home game against the Canterbury Bulldogs to Gosford next season.

Finally the Sydney Roosters have indicated they will move three games away from the SFS in 2010. One will be the Round 22 clash with St. George Illawarra, to be played next door at the SCG. Bluetongue Stadium will host their Round 10 Heritage clash with Newcastle, while the third "home" game away from the SFS is yet to be confirmed. All is confirmed by the membership brochure: http://anax8ageo.pressmart.com/SydneyRoosters/index.aspx

Confirmation is still coming from the Dragons about their WIN Stadium/Jubilee Oval split, while South Sydney, Manly and Canterbury are all yet to confirm the opponents for their "on the road" home games.

Speculation on my part:
Souths - we all know one game is in Perth - my bet is R16 vs Melbourne, same as 2009. The other game they move could be the clash in the first few rounds where they play the Knights - probably Bluetongue Stadium.
Manly - I think they're just moving one or two games up to Bluetongue still, I'd imagine vs Newcastle is one of them.
Canterbury - the rumour last week was one game to Adelaide, so it's either that or Gosford for one of the clashes. The Titans home game is almost certainly Suncorp-bound again - it's scheduled for the weekend after SOO2 in Brisbane, and Brisbane have a home game v Penrith on the same weekend. Double header in the making again I imagine.

From memory, teams were supposed to submit their venue allocations no later than yesterday so we should see a full draw with venues in the coming days anyway.

I won't be surprised Timmah if they count the ANZAC game at the SFS as "Illawarra" home game, and front load the 5 other WIN Gong games so they can get building. Told you something like this would happen for the Dragons ANZAC game to be at SFS.

Edit: looking forward to the Chooks at the SCG. Should be great!

Even without the Construction news they were going to deduct a Wollongong game. I think that was my argument all along - not a swap with the Roosters as you claimed.

I'll take that as a "you're correct Timmah" shall I? :sarcasm:

My point was at the time that Kogarah and WIN don't like losing any of their 6 games each year, and whatever happened, it would have to be equitable to both sides of the club, not advantaging one or the other.

The "home" swap with the Roosters was one suggestion of how to go about it, or every second year home games would alternate 5/6 then 6/5. I didn't really doubt it would be at SFS, I was pointing out that some sort of agreement or payoff would be required for it to work, as unlike other clubs the Dragons can't just shift the odd home game (eg to Perth or Gosford) that easily due to the split nature of the club. Think of the effect on corporates and memberships, already spread thinly at 6 games.

That said, I'll take "stadium upgrade" as the best solution imaginable!
