But but but but but the regionals, Apples and oranges and spreadsheets!!!
the toe molester isn't a happy camper

Masters sure loves his cumulative totals which is hardly surprising given, along with SOO, it's the only area where the NRL compete. However, I bet he wont compare finals ratings. Of the 3 finals played at the same time over the weekend the AFL won all easily. In fact they won Saturday night by over 50%, 1m to well over 1.5m.

Comparing the cumulative ratings is meaningless given the massive difference in how both codes are broadcast every weekend. The networks know the true winner, hence they pay more for the AFL.

I thinks it’s great that masters wrote this article and puts quite a few afl people in there place. But this article was 2 yrs to late. The afl and Nrl is the closest it’s been in years in being able to be compare tv ratings like for like and due to the digital revolution comparing everyone (regionals) has become expected. I’m a bit skeptical though because it was the same at the beginning of the last tv deal and over the 5yrs it coincidentally fell in afls favor just in time for the new broadcast deal negotiations. If the ratings stay the same the Nrl should get a better deal than afl next time round even excluding the SOO series and Kangaroo games.

There only argument now can be ad revenue difference.

In the case of FTA viewers dont bring in the money, ads do. You would think that having more viewers would bring in more ads but then you have to look at national reach and value the companies advertising put on the audience. Add in number of advertising spots which is much greater in AFL and you can see some differences. On the flip side of that argument though is AFL havent pandered to TV and not all games are live stand alone on FTA and often have cross overs and different coverage in different states.

PayTV totally different and viewers has a direct correlation with revenue from subscriptions. Out Fox deal should be much much bigger than AFL's.

So the AFL got slaughtered once all content is factored in. Thought you would struggle with that... Still a :horse:

ABC digital news recently created a graph stating AFL TV figures were higher than NRL in 2018. Regrettably for the ABC, not even close. These figures won't get a mention.

So we have accumulated more viewers over the season even though they have an extra game each week and 4 games on fta compared to our 3 most weeks? Hilarious! We have rated higher per game in previous years, but now cumulative.

Does anyone know if the warriors home ratings in NZ are counted .
If not that's even more impressive .
We are smashing them with 2 less teams & one othervteams home ratings not included .

pretty sure the ABC article sad their source was TV Tonight which never supplies all the metro FTA numbers for the NRL and never has regional ratings either
