There was a big thread on this spanning over at least a year somewhere that might interest you.

Whilst I think the numbers are very interesting - I don't think Facebook likes which involve a simple click is "a better indicator of club popularity than club membership and match attendance" at all.

Not all people might make it to a match due to geographical barriers and club membership depends on how well the club markets itself etc. There are a lot of filters involve in comparison to a simple effortless FB click. Facebook likes I admit not the perfect model but is pretty consistent. There is no doubt Broncos was gonna be top spot for example.

It be interesting to see crowd attendances, memberships, TV (fta and pay) ratings, merchandise sales, social media and online viewing numbers combined.

I liked the the broncos page when they were in a patch of bad form in 2012 just to have a laugh at their whinging fans and their conspiracy theories, never got around to unliking their page
I liked the sharks page because my niece is a sharks fan and i like to keep her updated on her team.
I know that of all the people on my Facebook that have liked the rabbitohs page, only a small number are actually bunnies fans. Most liked the page during last years finals series after their teams were knocked out to show some support.
Facebook likes are far from an accurate guide on popularity.

Facebook likes aren't exactly representative of the size of a team's fanbase. For example, there's no f**king way that Manly, Roosters, Storm, Warriors and Titans have anywhere near the fans that Saints do.

The Storm are punching above their weight. On the other hand it's a pretty poor showing by Saints fans who have a massive supporter base, granted most of them are of retirement age and don't use Facebook

It all comes down to how recently successful your team is, how many superstars you have in your team, how hard your club tries to push its online presence; but the actual number of fans you have plays a role too. Broncos were always going to win based on that.

You can "like" a page but actually hate the page/team.
For example a million people like 360s page but half of them are there to abuse him and give him shit.

Lol I wouldn't hang my hat on fb likes.
Broncos, Warriors and Storm have a large city to draw likes from, Sydney is obviously diluted and then you've got the smaller cities who are going to be down the list as their population isn't as large.
Then there's the corporate likes and the bigger the company the more drawing power they have.

Then there's the casual Queensland follower, who would like all the Queensland teams and Storm as well.

Stick to memberships.

TLDR - The broncos stole our likes. [-X

Do you understand that some of the bottom and middle teams on that list are actually higher with membership numbers? Membership = $ fb likes = ??

It's really little to do with the Cows who are actually pretty average in both areas.

Could indicate they have more fans in the youth demographic <25yrs.
