NRL Players Boxing in the Off Season

Question...

How can NRL clubs allow their players to box in the off season when there is so much emphasis on protecting the head / head injuries in general between March and October?

Surely also any player that boxes during their career is forfeiting any possibility of suing the NRL for CTE in the future.

Definitely agree with the last bit there. Failing in their own duty of care to themselves.

Luckily for most of them (bar NAS) they are in no danger of punching there way out of a wet paper bag.

I suspect there is nothing in the player contract to prevent it. Just like there is nothing in a player contract which prevents a player from doing any of the following:

- Riding a motor bike;
- Going sky diving;
- Taking flying lessons.

All of which can be inherently dangerous too. They are employees, not slaves.

Fair enough. I guess I was getting at the fact that there would be less of a chance of a law suit against the NRL in the future.

I’d be surprised if there isnt a standard clause about not being allowed to take part in another professional sport in the off season.

I don’t have a problem with but I’d be annoyed if I was a Tonga supporter watching Taumalolo box when apparently he’s not fit to play for them at the end of the year.
I would hardly call it boxing, it was more like lumbering around gassed AF after 1min.

I'd say thats his last foray into boxing.

Some muppets like watching the likes if Gallen, SBW and co top up the super just like kids watching the Wrestling years ago with Killer Karl Kowalski v Andre the Giant.
My fill of pugalistic skill comes from watching Tim Tszyu fight Brian Mendoza on the weekend.
Interesting fight that one.

Gallen shouldn't be lumped in with the rest. If you know anything about boxing he did very well

That is why they fight each other so it isn't real fights.

The last paragraph though was my issue during the CBA talks, Anyone who does boxing should sign a form to not sue the NRL

It’s obvious to the eye dude. You can always pick the guys who haven’t spent much time in the boxing gym. They all look kind of the same. He had that look. Something fluid missing.
I've seen your takes on footy I'm sure I know more about boxing than you
