NRL Rd 16 2023 - General Non-Warriors Thread

It's another Origin-affected round, but still important in this increasingly fascinating season.

Friday has the Cowboys - who must be a real chance considering their form - hosting Penrith, who will be without a number of stars, plus the injured Cleary.

Payten's troops need this if they're to get back into finals contention, but the Panthers are good regardless, we know that for sure.

Saturday has three goodies, starting with the Knights, who are in good nick, up against the out-of-form Roosters. You'd have to go Knights here unless the Chooks fire up for Robbo and Nick (Politis) and their own damaged egos (as much as an Eastern Suburbs ego can get damaged).

The Eels host Manly in what history tells us is a blockbuster. However, Origin has raised its ugly head here and diminished it a bit. Both sides are going OK, both sides just can't lose, so it'll still be good.

Wests v Melbourne. Yep, that's a scalp the Tigers both need and want.

We finish with Cronulla hosting Canterbury in what should be a Nicho Hynes-extravaganza. He'll be absolutely out to show Freddie what he's missed out on. Poor Canterbury, poor Ciraldo.

Enjoy.

A Bye week for the Warriors is strange. Good to get the rest and 2 points but can’t wait for the next game and 2 weeks is a long time.

Really important match for the Cowboys tonight with both sides missing their stars due to SOO

It's a nice feeling. Last few seasons i couldn't wait for bye week to roll around to break up the disappointment :p

Playing the Cowboys in a final in Townsville wouldn't be on anyone's wishlist. Knowing our luck we'd have to do that too - just like we did in 2007, which ended our season - so perhaps we all cheer on the status quo tonight, a Panthers win!

Go Panthers! Panthers will definitely make the top 8 whereas the Cowboys would be competing with us. However more than half the Panthers team is out with SOO

Well, it's close! 12-10, Cows. A quarter in.

JT is on, he might be the difference.

The Cowboys defence is a disgrace
35 missed tackles so far by the Cowboys. JT is struggling fitness-wise but that's understandable as it's his first game back.

The Ashes is on the other channel, which is a distraction. It's beautiful weather at Edgbaston.

A thriller it was! 27-23, Cowboys. Final.

I was hoping to see it through but that beautiful English summer's day at Edgbaston seduced me.

18-16, Roosters. Final. There was a second-half grind, a grandstand finish with a 75-metre late try to Newcastle but, alas, the blue-collar homeside lost to the Bondi big-shots.

Don't hold back, Beave, what are you thinking?

Manly are being done by the old enemy. They look like a different side to last week, but that could just be a reflection on how bad the Dolphins were.

Edit: 34-4, Eels. Final.

I think this round needs a Tigers upset!

Had it recorded and turned it off early, playing ordinary but I don’t know why we even bother turning up to that ground, never get a fair crack at things

When Parramatta were given long enough to watch the replay on the big screen before lodging their captains challenge I turned it off and went across to the Darts World Cup

Around Tiger town there has to be seriois noise around moving Sheens on early.

The've been particularly poor in Campbelltown this year too, so that's the westside offside too.

One positive from last night's drubbing by Melbourne was Alex Twal first try, in 116 NRL games!

An angry Hynes (with a bit of help from the Sharks) blew the Bulldogs away yesterday 48-10.

The Broncos are on top! Look at the odd one out in the top-eight, it's Canberra with -74 f/a. They'll quickly slide away if they lose games.

We need another big win and, of course, we need to win next week against St George. We could drop out of the eight if not! Scary times, but exciting too.

Continues to be a close competition. Any of the 13 can still make the top 8.

If we can win the next 2 with the troops coming back we could be in top 4. If we lose the 2 we are out of the top 8. Win 1 and lose 1 and we fight for 7th or 8th position

It's a white-knuckle ride, no doubt.

Those two losses to the Roosters - who are rubbish, but we didn't know it at the time - are beginning to haunt me.

Eels are looking big improvers. On a decent win streak and their +/- is very solid. Warriors need to maintain momentum this week for sure. Hope Webby handled the bye week better than last time. Thats the only black mark on him so far this season.

Unlike the Broncos our opponents after the bye this week is St George, and they look a bit of a mess. Hunt wants out, will he play this Friday?
