20kb? that's nothing

Well if people want to use them they can save them to a lower quality i guess

I see these things everywhere, not only on this forum. Do you have to make them or are they taken off a site??

Nothing? For a 350x19 image?

i didn't mean it in that way

i meant it's not really much in regards to loading time, seeing that most people use high speed internet these days

i'm assuming the filesize limit is made in regards to loading time?

Yes. Not everyone has access to high speed internet.

Besides if every person has 2 20Kb images in their signature, 20 posts per page, that's 800Kb.

40Kb images, it's 1200Kb.

And once it loads it is cached

e.g. Everyone who has already viewed this thread has loaded them and have them in cache

Not necessarily. A lot of people close their browser and wipe cache, or have low cache limits. Also, a lot of sites send no-cache headers with images. And work or public computers usually don't keep cache after the session ends.

The limit is 20Kb.
