You want to explain this a bit better for me Nut?Everyone is shitting on Telstra for this situation but I don't think it's that cut and dried.
Telstra have apparently had exclusivity rights since 2015. There's no way in the world that Vodafone wouldn't have known that. I reckon there would have been discussions behind the scenes for years but Vodafone have dug in their heels and Telstra have finally gone to the only option available to them.
If the roles were reversed, and Vodafone wanted to block conflicting sponsors from their competition, do you think it would be any different? No of course not.
Vodafone knew full well what they were doing by retaining their sponsorship for so many years. If the NRL were sponsored by anyone else I reckon Vodafone would have ditched us a long time ago.
Yes it all sucks for the Warriors and it's another obstacle we'll have to overcome somehow but let's not pretend that Vodafone are an innocent party in all this.
Pure speculation on my part but yes, I reckon that's the nub of it. It's the only thing that makes sense. Are you saying that Vodafone Australia are benefitting from the naming rights even though they are no longer affiliated with the NZ company and thats why Telstra put their foot down?
Agree mate, we saved their competition and their TV deal and then they f**k us over like this, f**k the NRL and Telstra. There's no actual conflict. They aren't competitors because they don't operate in the same markets. Vodafone Australia might be benefiting as a side effect - but they aren't affiliated with the parties involved in the contracts (not owned by the same people). They aren't a party to the contracts at all.
f**k Telstra - and frankly, f**k the NRL for letting it get beyond that point.
The only thing I can think of is a specific Vodafone-centric clause in the 'new' Telstra/NRL deal... in which case, why in the f**k would they wait 5 years only to do it at the worst possible moment for them, PR wise? I never thought I'd say this, but not even Telstra are that incompetent.
Yip, bit of PR backlash.Nice work Telstra
Lol they aren't even competitors.
