That's some quality stupid there.

We all know the many league players have passed away this year. That is sad, God rest their souls, but what I'm trying to understand is that... in the 100 or so years of this game, prior to all these softening rule changes, no players have died as a result of the actions that have forced rule changes in the top flight game.

I agree that these rule changes are necessary in the junior or semi-pro competitions, but not the main game. How on earth can a 110kg professional prop die from a shoulder charge when he trains 6 hours a week on the running maneuver?

TBH there's not a whole lot to understand...

Bigger, stronger players + a more litigious society mean it is necessary. End of.

I don't want to be a spoilsport but what happens if Kane Evans waits until he is carrying the ball before he shoulder charges Kasiano into the turf again

Probably a bit too soon.

One thing I wanna point out though is Cameron Smith is taking advantage of the James Ackerman situation to deflect attention from his Alex McKinnon controversy.

I reckon Champ has you summed up pretty well

You realise Cameron attended the funeral of James Ackerman prior to the 60 minutes controversy right?

And I love how you state it like it is a fact too.

I honestly don't know why it took this long to do it. Surely when they banned it they would have thought about this.

Oh well, means we don't have to hear people crying about Evans not getting suspended now.

Evans should have been suspended.

The amount of damage he did to the massive egos at nrlhq suggests it must have been a grade 3 reckless.

So they quickly change the rules on a tackle (1st of the year in the NRL) that results in no injury to a player. Another over reaction to the media.

The knee jerk reactions from this administration never cease to amaze me.

We all use to go on about Gallop being too reactive...

Well this is the alternative; pre-empting issues BEFORE shit hits the fan.

Youll have to say how they could approach this without accusatiions of being "reactionary".

Yep. Pre-empting imaginary issues that didn't exist. That's what we want. They're now reacting to players NOT getting hurt.

Like I said, the enormous egos at the NRL couldn't handle their own match review committee making them look stupid by correctly not charging a player for a completely safe hit so they've had to bring in mandatory sentencing mid-season to save face in the future. Welcome to spiNRL. Where the egos of the admin dictate the future of the sport.
