Meat pies weren't invented in Australia.

While was RL was born in England, given the amount of input that Australian rugby league has had on the evolution of the code's rules, coaching, science and strategies, and that Australia has the bulk of the world RL's playing stock, it's a long stretch to call RL a "foreign code". Can soccer or RU say that? Aust rules is full of English rules and concepts, and even uses a rugby ball.

(And don't the Victorians love singing "Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars"?).

It's only in winter that the Victorians suffer a disdain for "foreign" sports. In Spring & Summer they have no problem with cricket, horse racing and soccer.
