I personally dont think the tries mean that much. in the matty last year the three top try scores all missed out. I think who u know helps a lot more

Spot on! Teams of the past have confirmed your assessment. It is 'all but' a moot point!

I wonder what surprises the selectors will toss up this year? In saying that generally all worthy candidates will get an invite to the 'Possibles v Probables' trial match(es); which in itself is a great achievement.

If Alex Johnston gets the fullback gig ahead of DWZ the selectors are kidding themselves.

Daz,

DWZ was absolutely outstanding at last years ASSRL championship and was more deserved of selection in the Australian Schoolboys team than any of those who took the full-back and wing positions, especially AJ.

This time around it won't be school teachers selecting, and given his current form, there should be no issue in my mind. However AJ was there last year and seems to be the golden boy when it comes to selection but it may be a case of AJ remaining on the wing for 2013. Admittedly his form in the SGB comp this year was not of a high standard, while Dallin's in the 20's has been anything but ordinary!

I wasn't at the Schoolboys championships last year but those who I have spoken to said that Pats Blacktown were unlucky not to have more than 5 in the Australian team. Dallin being one of them.

He is carving up in the 20's, 8 tries already plus he is creating tries for his team mates. He has even relegated Kieran Moss to the wing this week!

Did he leave school last year? I think he did? If not NSWCCC would go close to winning the title 3 years in row with him in the team!

He is still in school. No one can take that Aust Schoolboys jersey of him this year!

With the results in the HM and SG Ball now known, I am interested to learn the players you believe will be selected for the respective NSW teams?

I will stick with the team I amended up top as far as the SGB boys are concerned as there are some that are doing quite well in the 20's even though their respective team didn't do well in SGB (i.e. Milne and Meehan).

Then there are the other who by-passed SGB this year like Clay and DWZ.

Then there are others that didn't have spectacular seasons as far as their teams were concerned but played individually well (i.e. Harris, Knight, Matu'atia and Morgan).

All the others had great seasons with clubs that also did well (i.e. Armstrong, Luke and Tatola).

On a final note some random (but great playing) CRL lad will get thrown in as politics will demand!

Thanks for your thoughts. It will be interesting to see the composition of the teams.

norths devils won the u16 comp in qld and already have 5 named in the qld side. devils are a feeder side to the broncs and usually have a lot of wavell high boys.

Fonua-Blake, Jack Bird, and wait for it, Jackson Hastings playing U/20's tonight! Hastings and Blake are doing extremely well with Hastings scoring! Bird in his traditional fashion is defending tenaciously and has even bagged a try!

Bird has always been a favourite with NSW selectors and we could see a late bolter! He and Hastings will definitely get a call up for the Poss v Probs trial.

Hi Tuc,

Unless I'm mistaken they don't have a Poss v Prob for 18's. that being said Bird was in the 16s as a 15 and 16 yo. So runs are on the board and if it weren't for injury probably would have made it last year. As far as Hastings is concerned depends on where they play him. NSW looked covered at 1 although his versatility could easily see him on te ench to cover 1,7 and 9.

Drew Hutchison is in the halves as well. At least, he's named...

Hastings won't make it IMO. Wasn't that impressive when I saw him play against Penrith, how did he go in the other games?

I agree Daz, as no-one is going to take the place of DWZ for fullback! However the kid did shine tonight!

Addin Fonua Blake would have all but secured his spot IMO given his season and performance tonight!

But the 'DARK HORSE' for me is Jack Bird; he had a great game tonight and I believe he will get more game time in the weeks before SOO 2 rolls in! The selectors will certainly be looking at him!

HB: You're correct, I'm thinking about other open schoolboy trials I went to watch at Leichardt two years ago!
