So, who replaces Madge for NSW? I think they still have this rule that it can't be a current NRL coach. Who's left?

They might have to go back to the future with Loz or Freddy? Or how about Toovs? There's got to be an investigation!

The cupboard's pretty bare right now. No to going back to rehashing old appointments. I think we should be looking long term and targeting someone who isn't a career head coach out of job, because they'll simply use it to catapult themselves back into an NRL job. In the end it has an undermining effect on the status of rep football IMO.

Someone like Mick Ennis maybe?

Yeah, maybe. But commentators like him or the Johnses haven't ever been head coaches so that worries me a bit. I know they've done some assistant coaching but that's a totally different beast.

Current assistant coaches who have been head coaches include Holbrook, Furner, Barrett, Taylor, I think Cartwright has just got a job in the UK, can't think of many more.

Kevvie Walters is free I've heard... :p

I like Mary and Tooves. I reckon Tooves is someone that has a bit of Tommy Raudonikis mongrel in him that the players will want to go into battle for and die for. That's what you need in an Origin coach I reckon - the ability to motivate the players to run through brick walls for you.

Can't be Loz. Is involved in the gambling agencies. And that's not allowed with current coaches roles
Freddy's retirement now
Trent Barrett maybe 🤔

I'm not sure why the NSWRL are so salty at Madge, the goal of any coach is a head coaching role at a club so good luck to him.

Also not sure why they insist on the coach not being a current NRL coach rule. This was brought about during the 8 in a row because Mal wasn't an NRL head coach but in reality QLD just had a team full of GOATs.

Bellamy would kill it IMO now that NSW (on paper) has the better team. I think Fitzy would be a decent candidate as well. If they insist on someone not working as an NRL head coach then I guess Toovs is the best option

I'd be happy for Toovey to get a run. I still don't get how he has never gotten another coaching gig since Manly shafted him when you consider the plonkers that keep getting starts.

If they went back to a coach that is also a full time club coach Bellamy having another go would be interesting.

I don't want any coach who has a bunch of top Qld players in his NRL team. We've seen before (from both camps) how their gameplan is compromised because they don't want to jeopardise their NRL season targeting their star players in the opposite team.

Call me crazy but I'd consider Gus. If Wayne can still get the most out of players at his age, Gus could surely do the same for 3 high-stakes games a series. At least until Madge burns out at the Broncos in 2027, then he can come back to NSW
