You would think that'd be tough, just because a first grade side wouldnt necesarily want players travelling to perth on a weekend?
Hopefully you can find a club, sniff around someone like Newcastle or Scumulla, who doesnt currently have a side.

Newcastle have committed to their local comp for next year

Query - how many NRL clubs placed players with NSW Cup teams in 2009 ?

There are five affiliated to Queensland Cup clubs - Brisbane, Gold Coast, North Qld, Canberra and Manly.

Take out New Zealand, that leaves another ten clubs - how many link to NSW Cup teams and what happens with those who don't ?

NSW Cup:
Canterbury - Bankstown City (Sydney) Bulls
St George - Shellharbour City Dragons
Parramatta - Wentworthville Magpies
Penrith - Windsor Wolves
Wests Tigers - Balmain Tigers + Western Suburbs Magpies
Easts - Newtown Jets
South Sydney - North Sydney Bears
NZ Warriors - Auckland Vulcans
Melbourne - Central Coast Storm
Cronulla Sutherland fields their own side.

Newcastle placed their fringe 1st Graders in their local comp.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

So they already have ten NRL clubs feeding into the NSW Cup as opposed to five into the Queensland Cup. How could they possibly argue that they need to make that twelve as opposed to three just to make it as strong as the Queensland Cup ?

If the ARL thinks such a move is good for the game, they might as well disband that redundant body once and for all.

I think it would be great to see some games between the top sides from the Q-Cup and NSW-Cup in the future.

One way would be to combine the the finals series taking the top 4 from each comp.

Or you could just have a standalone knockout comp with the top 4 from each, and still contest seperate finals in each state.

No.. I think the best way to go would be to have each team play their grand final a week before the NRL Grand Final.

Then, on Grand Final day there would be 3 games:
* NSW Premiers v Qld premiers - like a Superbowl for the state championships
* Toyota Cup grand final
* NRL Grand final

After watching yesterdays NSW Cup final in front of what looked an empty stadium I think playing the winners of each comp as the first curtain raiser on GF day might be most successful. This would allow both comps to hold thier grand final on the sunday before the grand final as there are no NRL finals held on this day.
Both comps would then have the opportunity to promote their respective comps and host a stand alone final at a botique stadium.

Exactly.

And if a team has continued success in this format, it would further their case for promotion into the NRL.

If a club they can beat the best teams in their state, plus the champion of the other competition, and they have the finance and stadium to host NRL games, then it's a huge selling point.

I really think that an integrated NSW/Qld competition structure can be a good gateway to NRL expansion.

From the Cabramatta RLC website Tuesday 6-10-09
TWO BLUES JOIN FORCES WITH CRONULLA SHARKS

The Cabramatta Two Blues have agreed to terms for 12 months to form a joint venture team with the Cronulla Sharks to play in the 2010 NSW Cup Competition. The side, which would be known as the Cabramatta Two-Blues and will play out of New Era Stadium at Cabramatta, would contain between 5 and 8 players from Cronulla's Top 25 full time squad.
Cabramatta will still retain its ties with the Parramatta Eels, and the Eels will still have first preference when selecting juniors for Development or Junior Representative teams. The partnership however, will offers young players playing for Cabramatta a direct link through to first grade should they be overlooked by the Eels and access to one of the greatest coaches in the NRL in Ricky Stuart.

I know Manly were trying to strike up a deal with Mounties for a NSW Cup team, but the Mounties board voted against it.

I believe Manly are still shopping for a BRS team for a partnership.

Something interesting from Newtown Jets President

"Newtown RLFC President Barry Vining indicated the club’s ongoing determination to continue to lift the status and profile of the NSW Cup competition.
He also announced that the NSW Cup clubs will participate in a Challenge Cup competition in 2010 along with regional teams from the NSW Country Rugby League."

I'd go to watch that

That's pretty cool, I'd defintely go along to some of those games. It would be even better if there were some Q-Cup clubs involved as well.

RL: Knights reveal Central Coast link up
SYDNEY, Nov 17 AAP - Newcastle Knights have revealed plans to
increase their presence on the NSW Central Coast in a new
partnership between the NRL club and the region's rugby league
governing body.
The new-look Central Coast Crusaders team will play in the NSW
Cup while the Entrance Tigers will play in the Bundaberg Red Cup
competition, formerly known as the Jim Beam Cup, in a system that
could give youngsters a pathway to the Knights first grade side.
The Crusaders side will be selected from elite local players and
Newcastle contracted players not involved in NRL or Toyota Cup
matches.
The Central Coast previously competed in the NSW Cup under a
joint-venture agreement with the Melbourne Storm while the Entrance
Tigers are also no strangers to NSWRL open age competitions having
won the 2007 Jim Beam Cup Premiership.
Melbourne pulled out of the partnership this year after deciding
to enter its own team in the NSW Cup.
Country Rugby League General Manager Terry Quinn believes the
new link-up will prevent talented junior players being lost to
other codes.
"With today's announcement grade and junior players now have a
complete representative pathway available to them from under 13s
through to the National Rugby League with the Newcastle Knights,"
Quinn said.
"It gives our juniors something to strive for and will hopefully
keep them in our game."
