There is no doubt about NSW tactics. Usually in Origin dominating possession, dominating field position, gaining a numerical advantage for 10 mintues translate into a commanding victory. Yet the wheels fell off. When the crunch moments came it was QLD who got the better of the blues despite everything going the Blues way.

QLD will not be like 2021 going into Game 2. QLD will be going to Suncorp to close out the series. It will not be a walkover but with determination comes possibility.

Surely standing Hynes opposite Hunt playing in the centres would have been the better option than putting him on the Munster/Fifita/Hammer edge.

If they are going to play Luai (and I think he played quite well last night) then surely that can’t carry Hynes on the bench. He can play in the halves and at full back (and there are already 5 fullbacks in the squad). Burton would be a better option just for flexibility as he could play halves and centre, as well as edge at a pinch.

Hynes wasn't used well it all. It appeared there was no plan for him. If he was there for injuries then you want someone more in the Wighton mould. Burton was the obvious candidate.

If Hynes is picked in game 2 then we need a proper plan. I'd look at subbing Tedesco or Luai and getting him into his natural position. He isn't a great defender so fullback might be the way to go. And if its in the halves at least he will be a bit more comfortable in defence. Right centre is a difficult position and he isn't the guy for the job.

Luai was the best of the spine players so he won't be going anywhere. In fact none of them are getting dropped I reckon, maybe Hynes.

It's blatant... the NRL are worried game 3 will be a dead rubber so gotta give NSW leg ups in game 1 so they wont have to win game 2 in Brisbane. Hilarious that it didn't work...

If there's any sniff of truth about that then all I can say is that official security (i.e. for ref, touchies + bunker staff) had better be airtight or they won't get out of Lang Park alive if there's any sort of an overt interference.

My own dull take on it is that after all the sound and fury has died down, it becomes apparent that the breaks tend to go with the side that's making the pace, as the other side is then pressured into error and carelessness. I'm looking for the time when the officiating and administration becomes as professional as the playing, no more of this wink-and-nudge, under the table stuff.

Maybe the AFL is better at this side of things - or maybe they're better at covering them up and presenting a more polished, agreeable front.

Watch again. Klein was 2 meters away from the ball at the Frizz no-try. He saw what happened, called it a no try and sent it up to confirm the camera evidence. Nothing there to contradict onfield ruling.

The last time NSW hosted a third game with the series already wrapped up by Queensland was in 2016. On that night, 61,267 fans turned up to watch the Blues avoid a series whitewash – 20,000 short of capacity. At least they got to watch the Origin debut of Wests Tigers’ young gun fullback James Tedesco.

Should Brad Fittler’s men win the second game at what will be a heaving Suncorp Stadium on June 21, NRL officials know the decider will be an 80,000-plus sellout.
