5 years of great form (Cordner) should trump 10 weeks of great form (Sims).
While Boyd was dominating for years, Tariq was being a bitch at Newcastle.
But on the back of a great start to a season he's overtaken the Kangaroos backrower?
Nah.
Sims was playing Origin-form footy at NQ don't forget. It's not like he's a flash in the pan.
Cordner is more professional more likely. Does all the right things on the track and away from footy to make him a more consistent footballer. Is he a Matt Gillett? f**k no! I think that's what we're expecting from our edge forward who is also our 'captain'. He is a solid footballer that just runs the same lines off his left-side half and relies on that half to create a big enough hole for him. Folks here don't consider his defence.......f**k, defence isn't even part of the game with most supporters it seems.
I won't be upset as some here if he's selected on the left edge. He'll be running off Maloney too and Gillett won't be opposing him on the QLD right edge so it is all really looking good for a big game in attack for the captain. Cordner has defended as the #4 inside Maloney in their time together in a premiership team at Easts as well, which Fittler is no doubt keeping in mind.
The thing I'm sure is playing on Fittler's mind is if he goes with all the pundits, that left-side defence is going to be Maloney at #3, Mitchell at #2, and Ado-Carr on the wing. Hunt/Morgan/DCE (whoever is their halfback as Munster will be on the left), Hess/Kaufusi, Chambers & Gagai could run riot down the QLD right edge. All well and good if rules are changed before Game 1 and NSW get to play in possession for 100% of the match. The reality is QLD will get the ball and they will get opportunities to probe NSW glaring weaknesses out wide. The QLD edge defence is nowhere near as susceptible. The NSW game plan could very much be breaking QLD around the middle of the ruck with inside balls.
