Criticising kids at this age is poor form, and not only that, it can come back and bite you on the arse.
I spent years saying Jarrod Mullen was over rated - and declared Cory Paterson would never be a decent player the first time i saw him as well, while dozens of kids i really rated are probably working at KFC now.

Mate, have a look at some of your posts in the Matthews/Ball/NSW Cup Thread and practice what you and Mr Preacher preach. You're a farkin hypocrite. All because I criticised a player you liked

The team is ok but there are a few controversial selections. Hopoate does not deserve selection at fullback in preference to Chris Ulugia who is clearly the best FB in the comp. IMO Hoppa is lucky to be in the side at all. (1)

I have seen Lachlan Burr play once and that was the semi against Penrith. He dogged it against the big Panthers forwards that day so I can't believe he gets a starting spot for the big game. (2)

Jacob Miller is a bit small for the centres and I would have played him at five eight. Tyler Sullivan got outplayed by Seage and Wehbe both times against Parramatta (3). I hope the centres get to see the ball because Tyler likes to hog it a bit.

Jacob Gagen is a very fast player and he has done well for an under 15 player. However he is no better at this stage of his development than Para's other in form winger Sam Ahofono. Ahofono deserved to be picked and in my view is in better form than young Jacob.

And how could they pick Ben Picker from Canberra?(4) His only played a handful of games this season due to injury and they overlooked Blake South from Panthers and Nick Folino from Para who are the form hookers in the comp.

That's 4 in my book. Yes I do like Lachlan Burr, and I've seen him play a f**ken lot more than one game, which has nothing to do with the fact that bagging kids is bullsh!t, and you Sir are a NARK.

I think there are a few over-reactions here.

If you can't discuss team selections and who is in or out of form then what can you discuss?

My input:
I've seen William Hopoate in SG Ball and he was very good there and i think would have been one of the first picked in this side.

Lachlan Burr and Tyler Sullivan have been standouts and deserve their selection.

I think the forward pack is a strong one although i haven't seen or heard much about Jack Stockwell and Blake Phillips from Illawarra. Adam Brent from Souths is the unluckiest forward to miss out, i don't think any of the Newcastle forwards were unlucky.

I was surprised that Gagan and Picker are both in the side. Gagan is a year young and Picker hasn't played much. There are plenty of quality wingers and hookers who could have easily been chosen.

At last some sanity and objectivity! I won't dispute what you say about Sullivan and Burr because you have seen them play more than me. I asked in an earlier post if someone had seen Burr play as I was baffled by his selection because the only time I saw him play he was dreadful. In return all I got was abuse from two recalcitrants who are hypocrites who have form about bagging players, including juniors.

It is nonsense to suggest we can't criticise the form of elite junior players, many of whom have contracts already. Indeed I know a few that have clauses in their contracts that stipulate the payment of a bonus if they make a rep team.

As with other forums my only reason for commenting was to prompt discussion on a subject of interest. And nothing the two nongs say will deter me from doing that.

We are all guilty of running down a junior now and then - but i do try not to say things that would make a kid disheartened if he read it.
I hope no juniors read these forums - but i know some do.

But as i said, running down juniors is a great way to get bitten on the arse, because some guys improve 100% from one game to the next in juniors.

Just a month or so ago I had a spit about a new player at the Knights, Jonathon Ford, who had a few shocking games, but since then he has improved out of sight and i have egg on my face yet again.

I get panned on the knights forum for always talking kids up, but i really think the way to go with juniors is to talk about all the good things you see - and keep the bad stuff to yourself as much as you can, partly because a kid reading negative stuff about himself would be unfair and unkind, and partly because you end up looking stupid when kids turn around faults in their play after one decent training session looking at a problem they might have.

Rambo is 'the man' when it comes to the Junior reps. His input is fantastic. He knows his juniors that's for sure, and I, for one, really appreciate the time and effort he makes to the forum. He is to the Junior reps, what Girvie is to NSW Premier League comps and I salute them both.
And I agree with roopy's comment above also. The kids are still kids..

Anyone know who is captain and who is the goalkicker?

I don't know for sure but I would bet the answer to both your questions is Penrith's Harry Seijka, who is in the starting line up. On the bench Para's Jason Wehbe is also a good kicker.

Q. Where did you ask that??
A. You didn't, and you didn't say he was dreadful, you said he dogged it.

Girvie, discussion is a bit different to outright bagging, especially when it concerns u/16 kids.

Aren't you lucky Rambo1, you've got Parra Petey as a devotee, mixing with the big time now aren't you ??

NSW win shortened match

A NECK injury to an eight-year-old boy playing in a children's league match at halftime during tonight's State of Origin curtain raiser forced the NSW and Queensland under-16 clash to be cut short.
The boy, from the Carlingford Cougars, didn't move following the completion of his game and was attended to by a team of medical staff on the ground for around 15 minutes before leaving on the medicab.
He was taken to hospital for what officials said was a pre-existing condition. NSW won the under-16s clash 30-16 after being down 16-12 at halftime. The second half of the hour-long game was reduced by five minutes due to the delay.
Queensland led 16-12 at halftime, but the Blues crossed twice within the first seven minutes of the second half, through lock Vaipuna Tia Kilifi and interchange Jason Wehbe, to lead 24-16.
William Hopoate, the son of former NSW State of Origin winger John, put the icing on the cake with two minutes left when he crashed over. In a seesawing first half, the Maroons had crossed first in the 10th minute through winger Josh Batalibasi.
But NSW got the next two tries, both to centre Jacob Miller in the 13th and 18th minutes. The second of those included a great flick pass from fullback Hopoate and was converted from the sideline by halfback Harry Seijka for the Blues to lead 12-4.
Queensland hit back in the 23rd minute when lock Benn Malley was put through a hole by halfback Ben Hampton, and regained the lead in the 27th when Korbin Sims, younger brother of Brisbane's Ashton, broke a tackle and ran 60m to score for 16-12.
FULLTIME
NSW 30 (J Miller 2 W Hopoate V Tia Kilifi J Wehbe tries Wehbe 3 H Seijka 2 goals) bt QUEENSLAND 16 (J Batalibasi K Sims B Malley tries M Frei 2 goals) at ANZ Stadium. Referee: Adam Gee.

Yes, he is a good mentor as is Girvie. They get their point across without disparaging and insulting language. :D

Keep up the good work Rambo. Your assessment is much appreciated by the majority. It is easy for critics to knock. You are entitled to your opinion....so take no notice.

McKinnon led them on after halftime Didn’t see the start of the game

Hopoate was easily the best player on the field and Picker would have been in the next couple with Wehbe

I only saw the second half.

Tia Kilifi made a great run to get over the try line after Lee Hang had made a good run in the lead up.
Pepa made a break and set up Wehbe for a try.
Hopoate pushed his way over the line to score.

I agree with Wicks that Hopoate was the standout in the second half at least but everyone played pretty well.

Looks like you and Girvie were right according to this press release:

NSWRL under 16'S win 30 - 16
The NSWRL Under 16 team were victorious in the 2008 Interstate fixture v Queensland at ANZ Stadium , Sydney on Wed 21 May 2008
In a free flowing event with plenty of ballrunning and tight defence, particularly in the early stages of the game.NSW slipped away to a 12 - 4 lead mid way in the first half however the never say die attitude of the Queensland team kept the Maroons in the game.
Queensland lead 16 - 12 at half time after a great solo try by Queensland second rower Korbin Sims.
The second half was totally dominated by the NSW Team with outstanding defence by hooker Ben Picker and exciting running by William Hopoate. In the Second half the NSW team ran in 3 second half tries running out convincing winners 30 - 16.

This is how the QRL saw it:
http://www.qrl.com.au/display.php?pg_id=3847

A BRILLIANT opening burst from boom back-rower Korbin Sims couldn’t save Queensland from defeat in tonight’s Under 16 interstate clash at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

Sims, the younger brother of Broncos forward Ashton, made two clean breaks in the opening half.

His first break paved the way for the opening try of the match to flying Queensland winger Josh Batalibasi, who slipped past two defenders to slide over in the left corner.

Sims was at it again minutes later when he broke the line wide open with a powerful charge.

But this time the NSW team couldn’t reel him in.

NSW winger William Hopoate made a desperate lunge but Sims kept the legs pumping and dived over to score a fantastic try near the posts.

Harry Frei converted to put Queensland in front 16-12 at half-time.

The start of the second half was delayed after an injury scare to one of the players involved in a mini mod junior game.

NSW dominated the second half, which was reduced from 30 minutes to 25.

Tries from Vaipuna Tia Kilifi, Jason Wehbe and Hopoate secured a 30-16 victory for the home side.

In a great show of sportsmanship after the fulltime siren, players from both sides linked arms and congratulated each other in the middle of the field.

Regarding this bit: "In a great show of sportsmanship after the fulltime siren, players from both sides linked arms and congratulated each other in the middle of the field."

That is Para player Chris Ulugia, who is a devout christian, gets players from both sides to share in a prayer at the end of each game. They form a circle and kneel together and say a prayer. It featured in nearly every match Para harold matts played this year. Lovely stuff
