Callan Richardson only played four games for Newcastle this year in SG Ball and scored 7 tries. After that he was injured.
Last year he was our top tryscorer in Mathews.

He is tall and long legged with a big step off both feet. He is also faster than most.

Who do the AIS squad play against regularly?

Wouldn't they make a good inclusion in the NSWRL junior reps (like the AIS participation in the WNBL)?

my understanding is that the AIS programme allows Country kids to stay in their home towns and play football with their local sides while they do their HSC etc, and they still attend regular camps where they get the very best of nutritional, fitness etc training, and get to mix with other elite athletes.
I think they would only play a few games as a team.
The thinking behind it is that most Country kids fail to make the big time if they go to the city too early - and they have stats to prove kids give up and return home more often than not.

It's also in areas where there is very little RL around

for example Joel Reddy was part of the AIS program in Adelaide while his old man was coach of the Rams.

I think I read earlier in the year that the AIS squad will be touring the UK at some stage. I know they played the Raiders premiership winning SG Ball side in a trial and smashed them

This team is an under 17s and SG Ball is under 18s, so a lot of these kids will have their best year of Ball next year.
A kid named Lucas Miller from the Knights was in the selection trials for this game, and he played about 10 minutes for the Knights all season in Ball, because he is a halfback and was behind another very good halfback at the Knights.

Origin fever strikes early as Blues draw first blood

Under-17s: NSW 28 Queensland 12

An all-in brawl marred NSW's commanding win over Queensland in last night's annual under-17s match at Telstra Stadium.

Players traded blows in the in-goal area after a try to centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall gave the Blues a 28-6 lead with 11 minutes to go in the curtain-raiser to Origin II. The big crowd cheered raucously as the melee continued but referee Tony De Las Heras was not impressed, sending three players to the sin bin.

NSW were reduced to 12 men, with lock Luke Muttdon sent off, while Queensland were left with 11 when winger Cameron Heading and centre Junior Seuma- nutafa were also marched.

The Maroons rose to the occasion, scoring the only remaining try of the match in the 62nd minute, but the damage had been done in the opening 24 minutes of the second half.

Dave Hamilton's NSW side had flogged Queensland 52-26 in the corresponding game last year but they didn't have it all their own way in the first half last night, the Maroons eking out a 6-4 lead, thanks to a try to centre Daniel Isaac and interchange player Josh Costello's goal.

Sydney Roosters' Kenny-Dowall scored the Blues' try.

But the home side sprung to life after the break, with Queensland half Brady Payne muffing a downfield kick and paying dearly when the ball was snapped up by Blues winger Michael Brophy, who dashed away to score.

The first sign of ill-temper in the second half came when Illawarra's Muttdon was penalised for stripping the ball and a scuffle involving four players erupted in midfield. Queensland got the penalty but failed to find touch - a sign of what was to come for them.

Fullback Jarryd Hayne scored four tries for NSW at Suncorp Stadium last year but had to make do with one last night when he snatched a Kris Keating bomb out of the hands of Queensland fullback Esikeli Tonga to plunge over in the 50th minute.

The Blues could have sealed victory when centre Callan Richardson crossed shortly afterwards - but the pass was ruled forward. However, Kelly Egan's Queenslanders were tiring visibly and Muttdon off-loaded in the left corner to put five-eighth Keating over with 15 minutes to go. At 22-6 the Maroons were in trouble and they never recovered.

Kenny-Dowall's second try also came from a bomb. A late try by Isaac at least secured a more respectable scoreline.

Michael Brophy (Raiders), one of the NSW try-scorers, was a late replacement for Kose Lelei who was injured during the week.
