NYC 2011 Predictions

Who do you guys think will excel and worsen in the Toyota Cup next year?
With the NYC competition the way it is, we know anything can happen in every game with the superb attacking footy each team can potentially play, but what do you guys expect of next year's teams?

My main tip:
Eels NYC to finish in the top eight-they certainly can't get any worse than this season, however considering all their extremely young players now having had full years (most of the team were SG Ball players), the recruitment of stars like Marmin Barba, Paki Afu and Cameron Bruest, I believe they will do really well next year.

They also have two players who have been tipped as the next Greg Inglis and the next Israel Folau (Jacob Loko and Bill Tupou respectively), with the former (Loko) being named the most destructive player in the NYC at his best by many experts; according to reports from commentators and such, Loko single-handedly won the junior Origin team match (or the series? Can't remeber) for NSW.

What are your thoughts and tips for your NYC team?

I was at the Junior Origin 2 in Brisbane. i was also at the u/18 Ball GF. Loko was good at both. Total crap that he single handed..........., played solid, great team effort.

Warriors will make the 8.
Yes they are down on experience but so much talent.
They have a lot of choices in terms of talent - even guys who arent even contracted as yet.

Auckland is biggest talent pool you can get fullstop.
Warriors and Auckland has so much talent available.
There are so many players easily capable of playing NYC they are not even contracted or in the picture.
Easy pickings if clubs are looking to fill in some spots.

Now with warriors doing a good job on development front future looks bright.

I'm pretty sure Paki Afu is too old for NYC and part of the 2nd tier squad.

I think the top 4 will be made up of Wests Tigers, Canberra, North QLD Cowboys and Cronulla. This is what I think the best 17 for each side is:

Wests Tigers

1. David Nofoaluma
2. Ratu Tagive
3. Tim Simona
4. Limoni Kamuta
5. Faleula Finau
6. Jacob Miller
7. Liam Ayoub
8. Neil Begovich
9. Dean Parata
10. Aaron Woods (c)
11. Ben Murdoch
12. Joel Wisbey
13. Shaun Spence

14. Pat Politoni
15. Matthew Groat
16. Daniel Ahsin
17. Mason Talolua

What a side!! All across the park they look very strong. On paper, easily the best side IMO. The forward pack is massive, coupled with some very skillful backs and a very smart halves pairing, expect them to feature at the backend of the competition.
.

Curtis Sironen will be in the tigers side somewhere ,probley at halfback

I rate the other two fijians over Ratu Tagive.
Ratu Tagive looked short and generally average for the bulldogs last year.

I Tigers could turn Taqele Naiyavoro into a revelation next year.
He played for NZ best club team last year and killed.

A little raw but a 6 foot 4ish over 100kg and plenty of pace.

haha havent seen the fijian coming straight from fiji but must me good to make national team.

Mosese Fotauika will be in the Tigers starting side or bench. Potentially the best of the props.

The Storms team will probably look something like this to start the year

1. Sean Loxley
2. Josh Jerome
3. Some Avuaa
4. Brayden Wiliame/Ryan Pooley
5. Brayden Wiliame/Ryan Pooley
6. Matt McGahan
7. Ben Hampton

13. Ken Bromwich
12. Tohu Harris
11. Mahe Fonua
10. Jordan McLean
09. Matt Smith/Lucas Greach/Barnabas Tavu'i-Leota - spot is up for grabs
08. Damian Sironen

14. Slade Griffen
15. Jerome Wilson
16. Kurtis Ritchie
17. Karl Davies

- Hampton, Fonua and Harris have been training with the top squad most pre-season so expect there games to all go to another level.
- McGahan, with his organising and kicking game, will have a huge impact on the team as will Sean Loxley, whos stats at Fb last year were very good.
- Plenty of depth compared to last year. Particularly in the backs, forwards to me though are an unknown quality. Expect the likes of Jesse Parete, Zac Moimoi etc to push for a place once they acclimatise the higher level of comp.
- at least 7 vics in the squad, unsure of mitchell cooks background

Newcastle Knights

1. Maipele Morseau
2. Chanel Mata'utia
3. Dale Clacherty
4. William Smith
5. Mitch Williams
6. Tyler Sullivan
7. Tyrone Roberts
8. Josh Ailaomoi
9. Chad Redman
10. Jake Finn
11. Korbin Sims
12. Matthew Herman
13. Ethan Cook (c)

14. Rodney Mason
15. Carl Means
16. Kirran Shearer
17. Alai Taufaao

Very good side across the whole park. Plenty of depth with Api Pewhairangi, Kori Barber, Jeremy Ma'a, Jarrod Tua, Chris Knight and Brendan Simpson not featuring in the 17.

North QLD Cowboys

1. Alex Elisala
2. Wayne Ulugia
3. Moses Pangai
4. Kyle Feldt
5. Nathan Kepa
6. Michael Parker-Walshe
7. Michael Morgan
8. Callum Haywood
9. Jay Lobwein
10. Sam Haore
11. Chris McLean
12. Jason Taumalolo
13. Chris Grevsmuhl

14. Luke Abdul-Rahman
15. Dan Beasley
16. John Puna
17. Anthony Gadd

The Cowboys have plenty of players returning for another crack at the title next year. The backline is oustanding. They will win them many games next year and should have the same impact as they did this year, although they just might go all the top.

Cronulla Sharks

1. Stewart Mills
2. Joseph Rokoqo
3. Elih Baillie
4. Matthew Wright
5. Luke Pickerd
6. Albert Kelly
7. Chad Townsend (c)
8. Teni Waipouri
9. Cameron Rodgers
10. Rodney Moefaauo
11. Tyson Frizell
12. Tyrone Peachey
13. Duncan Reilly

14. Penani Manu
15. Joel Tubbs
16. DJ Lokeni-Purcell
17. Tyrone Viiga

This Cronulla side looks the goods to me. The have a remarkable backline with the likes of Kelly, Wright, Mills and Baillie featuring. The forwards are a decent pack and should cause a lot of upset wins.

Does it look like these 4 teams will start next weekend at full strength?
Interesting that in 3 years we have seen 6 teams make a GF, and none of them have been the 3 teams that i considered the favourites for the first year [parra, penrith and the titans]. seems we will see another 2 new GF combatants. i'd add penrith and roosters as chances only for them both having superstars in viapuna and cordner.

Dom Walsh formerly of the Titans has got to be a certainty for a backline spot, unless he's playing first grade, Ulugia and Pangai and maybe even Feldt we could/should see in FG this year, Morgan and Taumalolo should step up as well after debuting last year. I think the Veukiso brothers will definitely be pushing for a spot, particularly Francis and I think he'll get a bench spot. Kepa played well in the halves in the trials and might get Abdul-Rahman's bench spot for the experience factor. Our halves depth is still good with Sam Foster, Kepa and Abdul-Rahman there. Zac Santo also impressed in the trials and should push for a spot, along with Nathan Norford and Antonio Kaufusi's big (little in age) brother Felise.

it would be good to see so many get nrl debuts in 2011 but this is still the same coach who didnt use segeyaro in 2009 when payne went down injured late season and the team was still in the mix to make the 8. he will use the experienced guys from the pride and cutters before the u20's, sadly.

Finally, we're going to see a decent Sharks junior side. I'm tipping them for the top 4 too and I certainly wasn't doing that the last couple of years.

That said, I think Kelly and Wright especially will be in and around 1st grade rather than the NYC this year footy1, so Mills and Pickerd will be the centres- and a damn good combo they will be too. It means Manu or Eather (or maybe young Peachey) will play 5/8th and Tautahu (sp.) will get the nod at fullback. Hasson has had a couple of big trials too, should get the nod in the backrow, and Rod Coates will be in the 17.

New coach as well- James Shephard, ex-Storm and Tigers. Does anyone know much about him?

One other prediction, and this one I'm pretty confident of- if he stays fit and Newcastle do okay, Ethan Cook will be NYC Player of the Year. He's already too good for the comp.
