I much prefer Kea, more culturally NZ than Orca, and relevant to where the team is rather than stealing a name from a NI team.
All of the expansion team names have been pretty disappointing lately Titans- Dolphins, but I still like both of those teams .
Cowboys and Warriors nailed it.

Even the change to the Kea logo looked good.

Do you people seriously see a team trying develop talent in a developing nation as a bad thing? Absolutely bizarre.
Jamaica has the fastest people on the planet and Rugby league actually has a little toe in there. Spend a few quid, hold a couple of training camps each year.
Apart from our residents kiwi that thinks all must be kiwi and reside in kiwiland ( Apart from himself of course lol)

I actually think every team in the comp should have to state an affiliate nation to partner with, some are already doing it off their own bat( obviously because it mutually beneficial) Storm and Fiji, Roosters and the USA. More teams will catch on or be left behind.
A nz team has more than enough talent locally without these gimmicks

Chalmers is a bs artist

They didn't STEAL it, they invented it, it was adopted after the nrl bid didn't take, they've carried on using it since, but it was Andrew chalmers brand first, and as he is running this bid again he can use it as he pleases, the Southern Orcas was always a team for both Wellington and South Island NZ, it's now wanting to be based in Christchurch, instead of Wellington this time, and will probably gain entry because of it being further away from Auckland, than last time

The Orca nickname was adopted for the 2006 season, adopting the name from the Southern Orcas consortium – a group attempting to gain an expansion National Rugby League competition licence that was instead granted to the Gold Coast Titans group. Previously they were known as Wellington Franchise.

Just like you pretended to be from NZ, it's f**king weird to be pretending to invest in the Caribbean, when NZ is being criminally neglected

Yeah, that actually figures - re-working the same bid & moving the model from "Wellington-based, with some games in Christchurch" to "Christchurch-based, with some games in Wellington" - with the blessing of Wellington Rugby League - makes sense.

The geographical distance from Auckland is further, the facilities (especially the new stadium) are going to be better in Christchurch, AND the Christchurch economy is stronger than Wellington's.

Plus you factor-in the hard-nosed winning attitude that Christchurch/Canterbury Province has, and that pivot by the bid makes an awful lot of sense.

Re-working a failed bid to be better isn't a bad thing.. it's taking on board mistakes/criticism and trying to take an improved case the next time around. Brisbane Easts will likely be doing the same after their Firehawks brand fell-flat.

Is Wellington going to get behind a side that play two games there and is really a Christchurch team

I really hope Pvl wakes up and kicks this bid into touch and works with Moffatt on the kea bid

Ok, I take back that they stole, but even so, it's a name that has been associated with Wellington for a long time, so I still think Kea is a better fit.

Any bid Chalmers is involved in I'm not supporting so probably doesn't matter what I think anyway.

All this is correct, except for the blessing part, there's no need, again he created it, they should be thanking him...

The same David moffett we hate in RL circles for all the mess that was created, that one? I don't mind the kea branding, but that's all it is A.I. branding and some flash cash, where's the grassroots involvement, where's anything of substance, hell he couldn't even get a meeting with the arlc, at his doorstep, and then whinged about it via the media, i can tell you this ain't happening

Lol what is his podcast called?
Nah just joking... he was interviewed a bunch of times about RU Rule changing to be better, basically what we did in the NRL to be safer and more exciting for the viewers and players.. I thought it was his own podcast, I saw a different David moffit "moffcast" for something else thought it was him doing a six tackles with gus set up

Well, if not blessing then at least acceptance by the Wellington Rugby League - considering that they use the Orcas name at provincial level & could have chosen to fight a Christchurch-based bid using that name (Ala Redcliffe telling the Gold Coast bid in the mid 2000s to drop the "Gold Coast Dolphins" bid brand)

Again he ran that bid under that name, Wellington took the name and ran with it, with Andrews blessing

Nah News Ltd always said they weren’t going to kick out souths again when they won the appeal

Chalmers promised the world as Bradford bulls boss and did zilch

He got them out of the massive debt they were in, and fielded what he could on peanuts, and still won games, basically got that club back on its feet
