It's not going to get the same pride in the jersey though.... It's not really north v south because if that was the case it would be Dene Halatau V the rest! Bugger all League players come from the South... So the way they are doing it is:
if you are AUCKLAND born you play for the North if you are born anywhere else in NZ you play for the South... I doubt it will be able to incite the feelings that of loyalty that our SOO does... With that said I am a fan I hope it gets off the ground.. Maybe not next year as the draw has now been done and plans are in place but 2006 when we can go back to split rounds to allow for it in the weeks between our origin...

I think they need to find a suitable mascot for the Auckland side. Something similar to the cockroach. They need to manufacture a real hate for the Auckland side. Are there any suitable rodents that infest the auckland area?

Yeah, how about Rodney, the dirty (& possible gay) Rat

idea has a lot going for it, but should jafa v 'the rest' be marketed as north v south?
north aka auckland will wear the auckland strip, what will the 'south' wear
is there an historic south or 'the rest' jersey from the past

hopefully the nrl do what is best for the overall game, and not block this for reasons of self interest,
if held same weekends as nsw v qld origin it will mean all the nrl games will be put off

then no one [hello red hill] can whinge about who gets the bye etc

Yeah I'd be happy with no games for anyone and Origin weekends which is why I'd suggest it's a 2006 thing not 2005 as the draw is done and with all the whinging that will happen (clubs won't want to release players, will be unhappy about where the byes are etc) it will just taint the first series...

i posted this very idea on another thread about a week or two ago. Daniel Anderson ripped it off me!

No he didn't... You suggested North V South (as many have) and I pointed out that it would be Dene Halatau V the rest... What Anderson then did is devised a critrea in which it could work.
North=Born in Auckland
South=The Rest
There would still be only 1 or 2 south island born players but at least it could now be considered a contest... Smart thinking you just have to get folks to have a bit of pride in their South Island jumper when they may never have even been to the South Island.......

I think the pride will come from kicking some Auckland ass!!!! Because no one should be proud of being a South Islander.

Just to save confusion the series should be renamed...
North vs South of the Bombays.

Its a great idea and something that should have been introduced a few years ago, better late than never at all I guess.

I just hope for the sake of the Tigers that this would be played during a round in which we would be given a bye because if SOO in Aus and NZ where both played at the same time we would be missing at the very least

Prince
Marshall
Fatts
Harrison
Halatua

and with the amount of young junior Kiwis playing in the ranks and talent like Merideth, Lima, Moa, Chase, Pangai and Wara it would dent our side a hell of alot more and thats something we really can't afford to happen

On a serious note maybe we should extend the season by another 2 weeks and have full rounds of NRL not played in between SOO1 and SOO3.

Why not have a week off in the NRL and play the two origin games on the same weekend.
eg:
Friday night - NSW vs QLD
Saturday night - North vs South.

At least clubs won't have to worry about missing players as the NRL will take the week off. Also, there would be two big games on, we wouldn't be handing the weekend to the AFL to the extent of a few seasons ago (with the Sunday night Origin).

And what about the teams that have the bye the weekend before and after this origin weekend???
They will be going 3 weeks without a game.

It wont work and I cant see this getting off the ground.

Um... the NRL takes a week off? That means if someone has a bye right before or after origin they'd have 2 weeks off (and everyone else would have had one week off anyway, so it would be like having a normal bye).

So you'd be happy Rif if it just happened to be the Tigers that drew the by the weekend before or after this mickey mouse "rep/origin" series?

It just seems to me to be like a successful TV show and they try to milk that with a spin off....they rarely work.

I know this is not TV....its Rugby League but were also talkin bout NZ here, you aint gunna get no Kiwi opposition to it here but in the real world?
I'm not so sure.

No its not Einstein....its obvious you werent listening in maths.

Team A plays round 7 on the 7th for example.
They have the bye on round 8 (14th)
Mickey Mouse origin following weekend (NRL shutdown-21st)
Team A plays round 9 (28th)

28-7=?

Possibly 21 days without a game...I'm sure Stuart Folkes & Bennett will love that.

Mate, Stuart would cry about anything. But if the Kiwi Origin goes ahead, I think Folkes & Bennett would welcome a full round of the NRL being shut down for the Origin as their teams would have a heavy involvement in both games.

Here are two possible teams (not sure whether the parents of the Cayless bros come from):

NORTH - 17 Kiwi reps
Paul; Vainikolo, Vagana, Hape, Utai; Webb, Jones; Williams, Puletua, Galuvao; Seu Seu, L Anderson, Wiki
BENCH: Lauitiiti(Prop/backrow), Asotasi (prop/2row), Betham (Backrow/Hook), Anderson (3/4 or backrow)

SOUTH - 11 Kiwi reps
Marshall; Whatuira, Mellars, Talau, Vaealiki; Hohaia, T Leuluai; Kidwell, Koopu, Kearney; Chan, Halatau, Rauhihi
BENCH: Tanielu (prop), Peter Lewis(prop/second row), Faimu/Glen Turner(lock/hook), Skinnon (wing/prop)

The paper had the Cayless' as South I think... And you can add Bronson Harrison to the South list as well he was in the Kiwi train on Squad..

I hope not Observer, That South team will get absolutely shat on by those latte sippers from the North.

And there will be no chance in hell that any English based players will be involved. If they don't get released for Internationals, they won't get released for this series.

It'll also be interesting to see if they have camps as well. If so, the Warriors will be screwed for the entirety of the series.
