I know it's a little while a way but whoa, we are actually playing a Test match as crazy as that seems. Really looking forward to us playing some Test Cricket.

What would your team be for the first match? Especially the middle order. Taylor to get his Test debut? I would post the squad that was named....but really can't be f**ked going back and looking for it:lol: . From memory we will have Papps and Cumming opening most likely.....

I'm not too confident going into this Test series....but I'm just glad to see us playing Tests.

You've got to be kidding - only two test matches?

Why on earth are you playing two four day warm up games if you're only playing two tests?

Becuase no one rates us good enough for more than 2 test matches. Unless we are playing SL for about the 100th time in the last 5 years.

I'd say SA 2-0 in the tests. We have a really poor test side, so many of our batsmen are simply stopgap measures. I can't see Papps, How or Cumming being longterm options. Reminds me of when we used to have Young and Pocock opening!

How's not in the team - agree on Cumming - but Papps has been terrific in domestic cricket, and has done well in ODIs - so if he isn't the answer then we have no hope

I thought Vincent didn't make the test squad?

EDIT: Here's the squad

Craig Cumming, Michael Papps, Stephen Fleming, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton, Jacob Oram, Brendon McCullum (wk), Daniel Vettori (capt), Ian O'Brian, Shane Bond, Mark Gillespie, Jeetan Patel, Michael Mason, Chris Martin

I'd go with this providing the pitch isn't a bit of a turner.....

Papps
Cumming
Fleming
Styris
Taylor
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Bond
Gillespie
Martin

A bit undecided on Fulton v Taylor.

FE, two blokes are out injured frolm the originally named squad. Peter Fulton and Kyle Mills. In have come Lou Vincent and Iain O'Brien.

My team

Michael Papps
Craig Cumming
Stephen Fleming
Ross Taylor
Scott Styris
Jacob Oram (but fair dinkum, his bowling is so woeful he only makes it as a batsman - he needs serious work on his bowling)
Brendon McCullum (w/k)
Daniel Vettori (captain)
Shane Bond
Mark Gillespie
Jeetan Patel

I'd go the two spinners, more for the fact the rest of the pace attack is sh!t. I know Martin will get picked, but the bloke is a monumental pie chucker. South Africa to clean sweep the series, especially since it appears Bond has lost his form a bit, if he's not on New Zealand cannot get 20 wickets in a test match.

Didn't relise that Fulton was out injured. Then I guess Taylor will get his debut. Oram definitly does get his spot on his batting alone. He should be used pretty sparingly with the ball. Gone from a bowling all rounder to a batting all rounder.

Hopefully Flem steps up for a big one. Going to need plenty of runs from the middle order as like Iafeta said, can't see us bowling them out too cheaply. And not too sure that our openers will provide a hell of a lot of runs.

Martin has a tremendous record against RSA though... he deserves first crack IMO

New Zealand's top order with the retirements of Richardson, Astle and McMillan in recent times has gone from 'solid' to 'wafer thin'.

Fleming needs a big hit every time he gets to the crease or they're in trouble.

However long term prospects like Papps, Taylor and Fulton could probably turn them into a pretty decent side again.

Only problem is getting them regular tests!

Fulton is a good player imo, I am totally bummed that he is out and we've gone backwards by reselecting Vincent.

whats bad about vincent? he's proven in tests. i agree with timbo, we need regular tests to pose a threat to the big teams. im sick of the icc f*cking us over. when was the last time we had a 5 test series? not in the last 2 years anyway.

just wondering who do you think will take mcmillans contract? i was thinking adams, but we really need another batsman. i hope its not cumming.... but that will be the likely choice.
