whats bad about vincent? he's proven in tests.

he hasn't proven much, in reality... jury's out.

Top order batting has always been NZ's problem - despite all teh concern about bowlers... in any conditions that support bowlers our batsmen have reliably failed, they succeed on batting paradises, and our bowlers struggle and get criticised...

Our bowling looks solid enough IMO, but Mills is a loss - but the RSA lineup will dominate

Vincent is much more proven than Cumming though. Plus Vincent is three years younger which is a pretty big advantage if we're looking to the future. It was only three test innings ago that Vincent scored 224, although the actual innings was 18 months ago. I guess in Bracewells logic this put on the outer when it came to future selection.

  give yourself an uppercut - you used Bracewell and logic together in the same sentence

Franklin and Mills named in ODI squad subject to fitness... real shame they're not in the test squad, especially Franklin...

I see Hopkins has been named as a specialist batsman. another example of logic, I guess... I know he's capable but...

Actually, it was 2 1/2 years ago

Vincent is proven crap in general imo

vincent had a great season last year, he was great in oz, averaging about 70, then got a 100 in the WC, then got injurred, and hasnt played since. (bar 20/20's) thats good enough form for me. him over cumming anyday. we'll just have to see how he goes in the warm up games because we havent played in 8 months.

i dont like the idea of hopkins, braces just doesnt trust the youngsters i dont think. broom has potentia, and if ryder wasnt so difficult, he would be perfect at closing the innings, plus he's a handy bowler.

Still far better than the alternatives though. Cumming has never shown anything to suggest he could be a stellar international performer, and he's already 31. Waste of time selection, at least with Vincent there is the off chance he could have a good dig.

LOL selective memory

Vincent got 2 consecutive ducks in the world cup and then got an UGLY century against Canada during which he made 40 year old Anderson Cummins look like Waqar Younis in his prime

But it's a brilliant chin, almost worth selecting him on that basis alone

selective memory? and you can pic out two bad games from about 10 good ones? why dont you like him manu? and who would you have in his place.

10 good ones?

You were talking about the World Cup, he played 3 innings and two of them were ducks, he then scored a scratchy century against non-international standard opposition. Vincent has hardly managed 10 good innings in 7 years of international cricket so I dunno what you are talking about there.

I don't like cos he's a batsman but he doesn't score any runs.

Vettori may as well be batting at 3 going going by what has happened so far....

Cumming
Papps
Fleming
Styris
Taylor
Oram....good to see he has been getting wickets as well
McCullum
Vettori
Bond
Mason
Martin

I'd say that will be the line up.

yeah, Oram had terrific figures with the ball, which is strange as he has been innocuous for quite a while now.

Problem is our best batsmen, or at least the most effective, bat 6, 7, and 8... hopefully Flemingm Styris and Taylor can score, but I don't see the openers doing much, Cumming is about as good as I am, and Papps... well, he's the best we have, so hopefully he can put something together
