If the pitch is that flat i'd rather Oram with 3rd seamer duties and Patel playing.

And who is your third seamer considering Mills is out? We're not going to take 20 wickets with an attack of Martin, Oram, Vettori and Patel and Gillespie had a shocker in Wellington. I think Southie is worth a go with the 2 spinners as well.

They said we'd never take 20 wickets on the Hamilton deck as well, but we did.

Yes Southee could come in for Gillespie, but i dont think the Napier pitch will break up like the Hamilton one did so should be a batsmen's paradise. I'd rather a 19 year old be given favourable condition's than becoming fodder to Pieterson and co. (not that Pietersen's been doing much).
Yes, i know he's going to have to play on all sorts of pitches, but lets help the young fella out.

Possibility of turn later on, or variable bounce. At least we'd have a couple of spinners to take advantage.

TEAM IN!!! WOW

Tim Southee and Grant Elliott will make test debuts against England in Napier, Mills and Oram out injured; Jeetan Patel also in team

Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori has confirmed Northern Districts seamer Tim Southee will play against England in the third and deciding cricket test in Napier starting tomorrow.

Southee will replace the injured Kyle Mills while spinner Jeetan Patel will play as well.

In a big blow to the Black Caps, all-rounder Jacob Oram has also been ruled out through injury. Wellington all-rounder Grant Elliot replaces Oram in the side.

i like it, but f*ck orams out. cant wait to see how these 2 perform. off radiosport btw.

I am trying to make sense of all this

Bell
How
Fleming
Sinclair
Taylor
Elliott
McCullum
Vettori
Southee
Patel
Martin

12th Gillespie

tbh, i would have Gillespie in the side over Patel, i see him more likely to produce wickets on that road in Napier than Patel. I know he cops it on here, and fair enough on his ODIs recently, but he has 11 wickets @ 24, that is a handy start to his test career. Some may say "it has only been tailenders" or something, well, removing tailenders has been a problem for us over the years at times.

At cricket training last week, i have jokingly said to the lads that Orams 20 overs on day 1 would see him out for a year injured, well the beginnings of that are underway

Will be sad watching Fleming for the final time, he is pretty much the final link to my years growing up watching the game. Must be getting old. Only really have Menzies and Wiki left in the footy too from that era

Used to play it pretty hard out, 3-4 days a week at a decent level, but got over it when it started getting too serious

My extent of playing it these days is answering the odd SOS to fill in

i reckon, they were bowling bouncers and trying to stare us down, and we were just laughing at them. $10 a pop per person isnt cheap for students either!

Good start for the Kiwis, Southee looks a talent (i only saw him in the u19wc).

Hopefully they keep it up, I had a bit of a go on the Kiwis at 5/1 , thought there was some value

What a first spell in test cricket for Southie: 7 overs, 2 maidens, 5 Runs, 2 wickets, Economy 0.71. It doesn't get much better than that on debut.
