NZ v England 3rd test

What an idiotic shot from Sinclair given the situation. I got a bit of stick from a couple of people for saying that Bell and Sinclair had no place in this test and I hate to say I told you so...

5 down now and still about 130 behind, it wouldn't surprise me to see us bundled out for 200 odd now. We seem completely incapable of batting second in test matches, we're just not mentally up to it.

Sickening batting performance from NZ. The entire batting lineup is just a useless pack of nuffies with no application. Fleming's shot was ridiculous, he knew the side was carrying two out of form players and a debutant, yet he just chucked his wicket away where he needed to anchor us for a big score. Dont get me started on Bell and Sinclair - currently 2 of the worst batsmen in test cricket. How was too ambitious after grafting for a while - only Taylor can point to the fact that he was undone by a good ball early - but then he should never be placed in that position.

Fleming has been throwing his wicket away his whole test career, it shouldn't really come as a surprise. I really do fear for us in England without him though as it's 2 tests in a row now that his wicket has triggered a full scale collapse which shows just how much we rely on him.

The shots from Sinclair and McCullum were the worst at a time when we should've been playing conservatively trying to get back into the game. Just about every one of our batsmen have been out trying to play aggressive strokes, we need to get it into our heads that we simply don't have the batters to play it like the big boys and go at 4 an over.

F*****************************************************************

The worst thing about this afternoon is that crap, negative field placings has gotten England rewards

Hopefully Dan can knock together a 50 and go back in and blast the sh*t out of some of the blokes in there.

Someone mentioned Fulton, he was out with a knee injury and just back playing now

Welcome back Pappsie, and may as well give Hay and Ryder a run, Ryder is probably a better option with 1 hand anyway

last tests for bell and sinclair for me, dont look like getting runs. give it to papps, fulton to cme back for sinclair and the number 3 spot should be... um... a bolter.. hay, todd or broom?? just got 150 and has a solid record, 36 in one day games and 38 in FC, who else we got?

Papps, Fulton, Hay and Ryder (see how his recovery goes) would be the ones to take to England for mine. I'd also bring both Southie and Elliot.

Go Sidebottom you Yorkshire legend.

England now dominating as they should have from the 1st test. Atleast that shocker woke us up for the next two matches.

Anyone else sick of McCullum's reckless batting? This guy has a massive ego which isn't quite justified at this stage. Nearly...imo he's about 51% bullsh*t and 49% performance. I'm worried that he'll never become a "proper" batsman, when I think he is talented enough to be one.

I loved Martin Crowe's commentary while they were showing the replay of Sinclair's dismissal:

"If he's on the plane to England, then I'm coming out of retirement."

In the ODI arena? No, it's working and giving us that quick start we've missed for a number of years.

In the test arena it's certainly not working. If we had a strong top and middle order then it'd be fine to come out there and slash at anything but more often than not when he comes in we need someone to save us rather than put the cherry on top.

My top 6 for England

How
Papps
Fulton (only natural 3 we have)
Taylor
Ryder/Hay (depends on fitness)
Oram

Travelling in the squad i have Hay/Flynn, (dependant again) and James Marshall, simply because he has had a fair season and offers opening and middle order cover

good, take Sinclair and Crowe then!

Hay has to get a shot and James Marshall deserves a chance, maybe Todd or Flynn too

Ellliot looks a very mediocre cricketer, seriously if we can't do better than 29 yo nuffy Sth Africans then things are more dire than I thought

I'd put Taylor at 4, and Hay in there until Ryder is fit, unless he really stakes his claim. My god that's a flimsy batting lineup though...

Bell, Papps, Cumming, Marshall sh*t we just keep going round in circles. They've had their chances and regardless of how many domestic runs they score, the honest answer is that they are not up to international standard and never will be.

The answer. There is none. How apart (and he's only just come of age) we have no other opener that can provide consistent run making at the top.

Guptill, Watling still to young and need to put together back to back seasons of heavy runs. Let's face it unless another left arm spinner who gets the yips turns himself into a heavy scoring run making machine who knows his own game inside/out and disciplines himself to play 2 scoring shots only emerges. Then we're going to have to make do with a nuffy who'll score a 50 every 7 innings or so.
